What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The action plan being adaptable and open was fantastic for me as a teacher. It enabled me to adapt the content as needed for my class and also gave support for sparking ideas.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The kit helped my students to have open and honest conversations about stereotypes and making prejudgements about people. It is a resource which can easily be used Year after year to help establish a class culture.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The class runs like a family, looking after each other, looking after people in the playground and standing up if they see or hear something they are not happy with.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Te students realised that the discussions around racism were not lose standing and that we will add to their skills as the term progressed. We are still not completely finished with this topic as we have decided as a syndicate that it will be a good topic

“I loved using the target circles. They created a lovely display and was a good visual for students. We had many parents comment on students discussing issues with them after school. It was important to get our parents involved as this will have a longer effect on the students, if they are able to share their ideas with their parents”

This has meant that in class the students show greater respect, and also greater interest, in each other and their backgro

“This kit enabled us as a class to identify a number of social injustices that people face right here in NZ, and a number of which my students had faced as well. It has made us aware of how we can make our classroom be a place free of these injustices. The compliments and the discussions that came from that were a favourite aspect for my students.”

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We celebrated our diversity within our learning space. Over the last term it has been often referred to during our conversations about how we talk to others.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It gave us the opportunity to get started and helped me as the teacher find the ways to talk about what can sometimes be tricky in the learning space.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? More tolerance of differences and the desire to find out more about the other cultures in our classroom and celebrate these through food, language stories and song.
