How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? See above
Such a great way to attack a very challenging issue. We love the way that the activities and ideas can be adapted for many ages groups.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Due to other commitments we did not quite complete this but it still has had an impact on how everyone views others and treats others. I am still carrying on with this as our Inquiry this term is NZ history and a lot of the action cards relate to this.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students are more willing to work with anyone within the classroom. Some students have stepped up and offer support with correct pronunciation which I really appreciate. They have been more interested in learning the background of each other, and this is
An excellent kit full of great activities. I found the students loved looking at stereotypes so we went into more depth on this. We also spent a lot of time on compliments and finding the good in others.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The action plan has had students beginning to look at their own behaviour outside of the classroom. They have reflected on why they say particular things that may be generalisations or simply not true. They are aware that some ideas are not acceptable in
My students were very aware of ";unacceptable"; language and stereotypes and actively avoided using the obvious ones during the lessons. I found it difficult to teach this unit as many parental values are quite different to my own, therefore I had to really think about what I could say that would be acceptable to their points of view while gently explaining my own. We have quite strong-minded parents that could use the unit themselves! There are some adults out there that will say things just to get a rise out of other people and that was something I needed to be aware of avoiding. Overall, I found that this was a good unit.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We didn't implement an action plan
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Our students are more open to talk about their differences. Students are making connections with each other that they hadn't noticed before. They all shared a taonga from their family which allowed us to get to know our students in a way we hadn't before
We didn't really use the kit the way it was suggested. We took key ideas and used them to create our own unit.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Children are certainly more aware of the need to be more careful with their stereotypical thinking. Especially evident as we read the book 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' shortly afterwards. Gave us good perspectives to think about people's prejudices.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? See above. All good for improving children's thoughts about the world around them
Parts of this programme were fabulous. The circle task, stereotype game, giving worthwhile compliments were all worth while and valid. Setting class targets to improve ourselves was an interesting discussion and definitely raised awareness. However after some very upsetting incidents in other classrooms around the disclosure of very heavy, serious issues in the anonymous task of ";something I'd like the teacher to know"; our Team were asked to stop participating in the rest of these sessions. The anonymous response put us in a position of knowing somethings were not going well for some of our pupils but having no way to address them because of the anonymity.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Being more aware and sensitive to how others feel they are being perceived by the outside world. Being more conscious of what we say and how we say it.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It made us more aware of each other as individuals. That we are all unique and amazing in our own ways.
It was a great tool and resource to have in the classroom. I thoroughly enjoyed the diary for myself as I was able to reflect on some of my experiences growing up as well as some more recent ones after being in Auckland for a week and then comparing it to my life here in Christchurch. You could say I am lucky to be living in Chch where people have accepted me for me. I loved the pack and my class loved the discussion. It was sensitive at times but it was what we needed to address as the talk of ";she called me black"; and he called ";bunga"; started arise and especially at this time of the year, we need everyone to come together rather than fight. A great pack and I will definitely be recommending to my circle of friends :)
