“We had a student racial abused by two parents at school and that is why I chose to enrol the class in this lesson. We started the kit and it has been a great kit for those children raised in 'white power' homes as they got to hear first hand how some of their friends were treated on a weekly basis by adults and children. We also have a boy, Justin, in our class who has physical and mental challenges and the class realised that he too can be the subject of abuse and made fun of and that life is already tough for him without other people making fun of him.”

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? I have been able to analyse the different cultures in my classroom and put in place a programme where they are encouraged to share information about them. Including their religion.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We are very much a receptive class. We are willing to do what is needed to inspire future students and their learning in the classroom.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Our school runs a program called Positive Behavior for learning which covers some fairly similar lessons. I think this would be a great kit to start the year with when we are studying who we all are and where we come from.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We got in the habit of giving compliments, thinking about what makes a great friend and regularly celebrating our different cultures and customs. I did however find some of the activity suggestions too complex for my Y5/6 class.

“I think this kit was great for deeper thinking and a reminder to have everyone in our class acknowledged and valued. It also reminded us that we all have individual challenges about the way we see others and helped us find positive ways to ensure inclusion is common practice.”

Our classroom has become a friendlier environment, the students wanted to learn about one another's cultures etc and it prompted so many different inquiry projects! We also had students teaching students in different languages and our classroom is even mo

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It gave the students tools to ask one another questions they weren't sure how to word previously and bonded them now that they know more about one another.
