After reviewing the content of the kit and considering the demographic of our school I did not feel that the kit was suitable for my students. I showed some other teachers and they confirmed my views.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It caused students to pause and think about life outside our sheltered little part of NZ and also open up about things they feel judged about-though not necessarily race.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? I think students have become more aware but also considerate of the vulnerability and insecurity of others.
I loved the idea behind this kit however, when I received it, was concerned that perhaps we were not an ethnically diverse enough school to truly benefit. I contacted School Kit and they encouraged me to give it a go anyway. The discussions this kit produced were so rich and the boys I teach so open. It really enhanced my belief that stigmas, stereotypes and, essentially, racism are fostered by the adults around them. On the FB page someone had written 'Just Because' poems as an activity alongside this kit. It was one of the best writing tasks I have ever undertaken. The boys really opened up about things they feel judged on and what the reality infact is. An amzaing kit that was the catalyst for some very rich learning-and they loved the pictionary game! Thanks School Kit!

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The changes are on going and we will continue to use the resources and learn together. Definitely more aware of the impact we can on each other.
Fantastic kit. Challenging for both myself and my students.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Children are much more aware of what they are saying. We have reduced the use of silly insults. Children are much better at giving each other real meaningful compliments that are not about what people look like.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? I loved how this kit changed the conversation of our classroom. It wasn't negative but helped highlight all the special things about us that are the same as well as our special differences.
Children loved talking about what makes them special. It was also interesting to see what similarities we hadn't spotted.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It has made certain class members feel valued and appreciated around their cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Challenging stereotypes - both obvious and subliminal has been interesting. The students preconceptions have been discussed and put on the table for opening up further. Awareness and acceptance!
A thought provoking kit on many levels. In our school where we all assume that there is racial harmony and no stereotypes around race, it has certainly challenged thinking. Awareness has been a key learning for my students. Valuing each other and the skills and talents that each of us possess.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It made us all step outside out comfort zone in terms of what we thought was acceptable and what was not when it came to others.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We have always been a pretty caring classroom but now we are more accepting of people's differences and we embrace them. The classroom feels like a family.
This has been one of the most involved kits so far. It really got all of us to dig deep and challenge the way we thought. My children really loved finding something nice to write about each person but struggled to minimise it down. We ended up making a small keep card for everyone to cherish with 6 lovely things written about them by their peers. I really love how my children reacted to this kit.

Huge apologies again. I have not been able to find time to present this kaupapa however, if I could hold it over until next year that would be much appreciated. First year teaching, lots going on and I'm still settling in, yes 4th term and I am just finding my feet.
