What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We are not there yet, but I know it will make my classroom a more inclusive environment.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Already, students are reflecting on their words and actions more, and pulling each other up when they use stereotypes.
Thanks School Kit for yet another awesome kit. We are still working through it (last term we focused on the two fabulous Tuia 250 kits) and my students are loving it! Each activity has sparked some incredible discussions and really challenged my students' thinking.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Particular interest in the migration stories in our classroom. Some development in the ability to talk in a respectful and appropriate way about culture and ethnicity.
I've had a really productive time using this kit with my Y7 Social Studies class. We've now got our SMART goals up on the wall and working through student designed activities to achieve them. We are a Secondary-Intermediate school with specialist subject teacher. Therefore I only see my group for 2-3 hours a week. For this reason some of the activities - like 'I wish my teacher knew' - have been passed on to their form teacher, so it is connecting with a teacher they have more contact with. For students they highlight was the stereotype bingo - however, I wasn't so convinced of the learning that happened then. Many of them were unaware or unable to draw the stereotype, so I had to be quite explicit about the few were stereotypes were used and what that tells us. The action cards and teacher workbook have been the most effective for me. Those action cards have now been shared among the faculty and are being used as a resource to support the design of a more culturally responsive junior social studies curriculum.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? I think that working through this kit has brought us all closer together, and has enhanced our tolerance and understanding of each other.
This topic was confronting at times but highly necessary to reflect on our own practice, and the language and thought processes of our students. We had some great (and surprising!) conversations following on from Stereotype pictionary.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Students learnt to stand up for themselves and others - They are more willing to compliment and be kind to others when they usually wouldn't say anything. They learnt how negative talk can really effect someone particularly in regards to ethnicity and cul
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The students are overall a lot more positive and less negative about differences between cultures. Changing their language when speaking about other ethnicities as to not stereotype. Also, complimenting people on their personality or ability not on surfac
This really set our class in the right direction with how to empathise and how to best react or respond to others. Students particularly enjoyed the lesson about stereotypes, especially those that related to them. Also, learning that what they think of others may be based on stereotypes and it may not actually be true for every person of that ethnicity. Students also learnt a lot about themselves and were able to take on new ideas and work on self improvement. Although the kit was a little difficult for my year 3's it was a very good introduction on how to be kind to everyone and that words mean a lot than we think.

I'm really very sorry but due to the lateness of the availability of this kit we ended up doing the whole school Squawk Squad programme in term 3. We even found that we could not get through all of that due to term 3 also involving our Ag Day and sporting tournaments. Unfortunately a situation arose at the end of last term that necessitated the implementation of the Kia Kaha programme this term. Sadly I have not been able to start on using this kit.

The kit was well thought out and had some interesting and thought provoking activities in it. Having everything in the box ready to go was great.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It was interesting to see what the students voted on being the 4 most important actions to turn into plans. A lot of thought was put into the ones they voted for. I’ve really liked how this has made them focus on making our class and school environment a
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? This made my students very aware of how they give compliments and also that we often forget to compliment people for the little things. It also focused them on who were the most important people in their world. They stereotype activity was an eye opener f
Loved this kits and the activities. We were all very engaged in this kit and really keen to do this every year with each class I teach. The envelope activity is perfect for the beginning of the year.
