What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Helped to focus the students in on key aspects of change that we wanted to see accomplished. Gave the students direction as to how to complete them.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students were more mindful - making bilingual and trilingual board games by using translating software etc... Finding library resources that supported various cultures, bilingual resources, using YouTube translate to show subtitles in other colours etc.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? I was able to display their work on around the classroom, and it's led to my students being more empathetic.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It got the class talking about stereotypes they hold without even realising - very interesting for kids that live in a pretty monocultural town that welcomes a lot of tourists.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We are all more aware of looking deeper than what we see. It was a great kit to get discussion going and to reflect on things we take for granted.

“One activity in particular caused great concern - asking students to write anonymously to their teacher. We received concerning messages and were unable to address these due to the anonymous nature of the task - this caused stress for teachers. A second activity required students to place people who are important to them on a target with the most important in the middle - parents noticed these displayed on the wall during learning conferences and some parents were upset to find that one parent was placed closer to the centre than the other. As a result of these two incidences I stopped using the kit.”

“This unit was pitched quite high and we only partly completed it. We used some of the games but I did not feel we were going to be able to continue and follow through the programme. Being a more rural school may be part of why this was so. We do have quite a mix of cultures these days but we do not have issues with them being accepted as part of our school community culture.”
