How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Students made noticeable changes in their language about themselves and their peers. They started using more positive language about their skills, abilities and attributes.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The charging station was a particular favourite - it opened more specific conversations with students, specifically those who have been known to find it challenging to ask for support previously.

“This is a fabulous kit that all our akonga enjoyed and engaged with enthusiastically. They really enjoyed the token system in particular. We ran this across term 3 and into Term 4 at the request of students. We also found those who struggle to engage with mindfulness activities really bought into the concepts in the Dove kit which was helpful a r in supporting them to create more awareness around positive self image and in turn, lifting others.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? It has helped provide them with a common language and because we were all discussing concepts, it became normalised and helped students with their self-confidence and awareness.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The check-in has been very helpful as often there can be students that you are obviously aware of because their actions can dominate the classroom, however, this gave an opportunity to check in and see how everyone was.

“A great kit that really helped to open up genuine conversations about how students were feeling. The starting activities helped with opening up a discussion about perspective vs. a person's reality. I would definitely use the key ideas again with a different cohort as it was so valuable.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? The red, yellow, and green cards were clear and easy for the students to follow. If they were feeling great on that day, it was their challenge to show great values and empower their classmates.

“We have been practicing mindfulness all year and it was been a school focus, so the kids really resonated with this kit. The confidentiality of the token system meant that I was able to check in with them without it being obvious to their peers. As it was term 4 when we started this, it felt a bit rushed but that's just because how crazy the term was. Looking forward to seeing how I can implement this self regulating system next year. “The “My Self” booklet was amazing. I had many learners that visited the hauora services team at school fill it in. It helped with communicating. With them and building a great relationship. It’s something I’m looking to adapt next year for Year 9 transitions to high school.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Students could identify the qualities of self esteem in themselves and notice what those qualities look like amongst themselves and their peers.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? This did not noticeably change within the limited sessions of teaching.

“I was only able to partially teach the Dove Self Esteem kit this term due to multiple time constraints. However, from what my students did, everyone involved could see the benefits and place themselves within the concepts. The small number of sessions was not enough to noticeably affect my students' self esteem or self confidence. I plan to use it again in term 1 of 2022 as a way to develop a positive classroom culture.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? This kit has given us direction, focus and shared terminology. We had the Life Ed bus also, and the programmes supported each other. It also helped to clarify my own thinking and beliefs around Self Esteem and the role it plays in every interaction.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The check-in tokens have been super-effective. Great way to check on what's going on for kids if they're in the red. The charging station look so impressive on the wall. We haven't yet put it to its fullest use, but I'll be keeping most of my kids.

“Thank you for giving us the opportunity to work with this kit. It's excellent. I would recommend that teachers use it in the first part of the year to give plenty of time to bed in the concepts - which are fantastic, and deserve to be dug deeply into. We used in in Term 4, and have been scrambling a bit to complete it in time to write a review. BUT because I'll have most of my kids back next year, we'll be able to carry on. I love the online support material. There is so much to this programme - and the way it is designed, teachers still have choice and therefore ownership. Well done School Kit and Dove.”
