How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? This did not noticeably change within the limited sessions of teaching.

“I was only able to partially teach the Dove Self Esteem kit this term due to multiple time constraints. However, from what my students did, everyone involved could see the benefits and place themselves within the concepts. The small number of sessions was not enough to noticeably affect my students' self esteem or self confidence. I plan to use it again in term 1 of 2022 as a way to develop a positive classroom culture.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? I think being aware of our feelings, being able to name them and have the knowledge that all feelings are normal is the first step on the journey to self-confidence. The kit helped students identify daily how they were feeling and gave them strategies.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The daily token check in was great as it gave me an opportunity to talk directly to those in the yellow or red. They new that they were cared about and that their feelings were valued. I kept it going even after we were done with the unit.

“This kit was timely!!! With an ever increasing amount of anxiety amoung young people, it came at just the right time. I am finding more and more students coming to school with anxiety or social, emotional needs. This kit fit as a perfect supplement to what we were already doing as a kura or in class around social, emotional learning. I loved the tokens as it was a simple and effective way to check in with students each day. The students loved filling out their booklets and learning strategies to help them with their feelings and emotions. The charging station is a great idea but I found that the words of wisdom were a bit safisticated for my Year 6's. They were intrigued at first but then found that the cards either didn't apply to there situation or they didn't understand what the message meant. Overall I thought it was a great kit and would use it again.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Being open and honest about reflecting on times within the last couple of weeks where maybe they haven't been meeting their potential. Students understanding that they are in charge of their own bodies, and we all take different things to recharge them!

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? We are way more open and honest. It used to be superficial such as "how are you?"as a throw away statement as that's what you're meant to say...but now students and teachers wait to see the answer and respond to it accordingly. It's amazing.

“This is an amazing kit. With students transitioning to a large Intermediate from a smaller primary, it has helped with identifying their qualities and confidence in themselves.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? By having a place to go (display and circle) and also the cards as supports on what to do next etc

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The charging station was useful as a place to go and setting students up for success in terms of understanding their emotions/feelings and what can be done next/processing these. The check in cards for those who typically go 'under the radar'

“Due to lockdowns we weren't able to fully delve into this as much as I had hoped, however when we were using it in class it definitley had positives. It was a great way to korero around a variety of topics that can sometimes feel uneasy. Having the resources there to support and refer to rather than just 'the teacher talking' was a good way to engage students and help to create that safe environment in the classroom for these conversations/thinking.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Built on nicely from our Pause Breathe Smile lessons with learners continuing to recognise how they are feeling.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The daily check-in is so easy for learners to use. Having the red letters appear on your desk, gives you time to read and respond accordingly - a safe way for the kids to alert me to anything.

“A great resource for the Tamariki heading off to high school! This kit has helped to understand how they can boost others self esteem when there’s is low, but to know where to look to boot their own too. We have used this in correspondence with our school wide well-being model with ease and great success! Thanks school kit!”
