“The students found the wall display easy to use and enjoyed exploring different ways to help their friends when they were not feeling at the top of their game. We had very few students that required help over the term by the teacher. The letters from their families were very special and handed back to them to read at the end of the year.”

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them One of our girls felt more able to step up as a Kapa Haka leader after using the kit, and one of the younger boys stepped up during an incident at break time that involved some unpleasant behaviour. The kit gave him the self-confidence to do this.

Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The Charging Station is great because it is very hands-on and they really related to posting their token in the box for how they felt their battery was. This helped me note some particular patterns with some students and identify what might be causing how they were feeling.

What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? This kit will help them realise that we all want to feel strong in ourselves and confident to cope with the things life throws at us.

In what ways has this kit helped develop student confidence As noted above, students felt more confident voicing things that didn't sit well with them, but in an apporpriate way.

How has this kit helped develop student resilience? I had a few boys who struggled with resilience, but the cards at the Charging Station and the knowledge that they could use the red card to quietly get my attention when they needed it helped. One in particular is much less catastrophic in his thinking!t

What impact has this kit had on your classroom community? They have coped better with working in different groups within the class. I used to get lots of moans if they weren't with their friends but the kit has helped them develop a growth mindset and be more positive about working with each other.

“I have used this kit before and find it very practical to help children feel strong with their identity. It opens the way for a lot of discussion about what makes us the same and what makes us different. They enjoyed interviewing their parents and the letters from parents were lovely. The Charging Startion is a great idea with great affirmations but it is not always easy to find a space in a cramped classroom to set up.We used a sort of temporary set-up that could be used at certain times of the day and then packed down. Not ideal, but better than not using it at all.”

“I used the kit for the first time this year. I heard about it from a teaching colleague who had been using it for most of this year. As I heard about it late in the year, I was only able to use it over 4 weeks. I would recommend that it be used over a term period of 10 weeks next time. I enjoyed the booklets. The concepts were explained well, very specific, and broken down into small bites for kids. The background teacher information was thorough and appropriate. I would have liked to see more video clips that cover more of the concepts for kids to watch - (kind of the kids' version of the videos that are for the teachers).”
