What did your students find in your community that they hadn’t noticed before and what sparked that discovery? Nil
Has this kit prompted any new food related initiatives within your school? No, we do have a lot but it started some good discussions of how we can connect more in our community
Has lots to do! Comes with most of what you need. I did get a little confused following some of the lesson plans and used them as tools for my own tailored lessons.

How did the resource inform students’ understanding of food waste as a global vs local issue? We discussed food waste in their homes and our school and compared to other countries. Meant they were also making great geographic connections and learning more about cultural differences.

What did your students find in your community that they hadn’t noticed before and what sparked that discovery? We went to our local supermarket and explored food labels as well as looking at vegetables and all the different nutritional properties. It made them really aware of the options in our community. We compared some foods in the supermarket and discussed food waste and other uses for the foods. Lots of really meaningful conversations.
Has this kit prompted any new food related initiatives within your school? More just that the kids are so much more aware of foods and have learn a range of cooking/baking skills to help out at home and reduce waste. The kids and their whanau all loved this topic, we've had awesome feedback from home.
The kids really enjoyed the kit. The hands on aspect of pickling was really enjoyable and full of rich learning.

How did the resource inform students’ understanding of food waste as a global vs local issue? Community Mapping: Students physically or digitally create and annotate a map of their local neighbourhood. They identify key food locations, including: Where their food comes from (supermarkets, gardens, farmers' markets). Where good food is shared (foodbanks, community fridges). Crucially, sources of food waste in their immediate community (school bins, local businesses, etc.). "Food Heroes": Identifying local people or initiatives (like a community composter, a local food rescue organisation, or a school garden) who are actively managing and reducing food waste. This provides local, actionable models for change

The Good Food Map Kit by School Kits is a fantastic example of how to blend geography, sustainability, and health into a hands-on classroom experience. It’s designed to help students visualise where their food comes from and understand the complex journey from "farm to plate."

How did the resource inform students’ understanding of food waste as a global vs local issue? I felt it was effective, and had we more time to commit to furthering the exploring of the local versus global differences and similarities. This would be a great next step. What did your students find in your community that they hadn’t noticed before and what sparked that discovery? The community garden initiatives in the local areas they live in
Has this kit prompted any new food related initiatives within your school? An initiative had been started previously, so some students were enthused to get involved in serving there.
The resource tasks are well organised into visually appealing appropriate sized activities. The scope of the ability to keep the task more dimple and also add depth and complexity to it helped with differentiation. It made the students really think about their own food map.
