How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths - longest/shortest,?How many plants altogether"; How many days until each plant started sprouting. Oral language - Loads of talk both at school and at home as well. Vocabulary - names of vegetables, new words - soil, sprouting, leek, radish, celer
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Students involved in their gardens at home. Taking an interest in what is on their plate. Also, enjoying shopping at New World and the excitement of adding to their garden.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We talked and talked and talked about the different plants. We could tell the teacher which ones we already had at our house. Sometimes we have them for dinner. Some people learned about new kinds of vegetables.
We wanted to plant the garden because we wanted it to grow. We wanted to see which ones grew the fastest and it was the radish. We only made a tinsy mess on the table and that made the teacher very, very, very happy because it didn't dirty all around. It was a little bit hard to water the plants because our watering can was giant and sometimes the water went down the side. When we took our plants to our house, our Mum's helped us to put them in a pot or in our big garden. From Room 1.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children have learnt about a range of vegetables and how to grow them.
We did not use this kit in the usual way. It happened to arrive just as we were getting a garden club up and running at our school so it was used with this club rather than with my class. Also due to a family health issue, I have taken leave for Term 4 so have not been able to complete the activities or review them. The kit was very generous - the children have enjoyed planting the seeds, solving the codes and learning about new vegetables. The children in the club also loved having their special badges.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were more willing to try new vegetables amd share their ratings of them.
This kit was a goodie! The children were engaged instanly and very keen to plant their seeds. The addition of the secret club was a really exciting element. I was asked daily if HQ had sent them another message. Lots of discussions around the planting process. Those with prior knowledge took the opportunity to share with those without. It was a really neat bonding experience. Our new plants were treated like royalty. Curtains were opened and closed to allowed maximum sunlight. Checking out growth was the first thing children rushed to in the morning and there was much cheering when the first plant broke through. Much to the hilarity of the children, the teacher's plants was the last to show up. Thank you to New World and School Kit for giving us an amazing kit in what has been a rubbish year. The kids really loved this experience. Kind regards Room 12 Colwill School Massey
