In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? My classroom is play based and the children were able to use their new knowledge within the dramatic play area when cooking for their friends.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We then talked about fruit and how fruit grows. We would love to establish some fruit trees at school.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our school is very pro-active when it comes to healthy eating and nutrition. We already have our own maara (vegetable garden) so this experience just added to the knowledge they already had.
The children in my classroom had lots of fun creating their little garden. They took the responsibility of caring for them very seriously and were very proud of their badges. We had lots of fun playing the bingo game and filling in the forms. Some of our vegetables have grown big and strong and we have now replanted them in a bigger pot. We will then transfer them into our school maara (vegetable garden).

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? In maths we talked about measurement and compared the lengths of plants. We wrote about what we planted and what the plant was. We finished our unit drawing beautiful spring flowers and dyed them.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children learnt about parts of plants, different types of plants and that patience, along with sun and water was needed to grow them. They were eager to take them home and water them.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning about the names of new vegetables and learning how eating vegetables makes us healthy and strong. We talked about what things grow in the ground and what grows on trees. The children took their germinated plants home to harvest, which they were e
The children were so excited to be part of an exclusive club. I really built up that part. Many wore their badge every day, it was part of their uniform! We learnt all about what plants need to grow, the recommended YouTube clips were great. They enjoyed planting the seeds and every morning the first thing they did when arriving at school was to check the plant growth. They also did so well cracking the codes, they are only year 0 &; 1.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? When we planted, we worked in small groups. This related well to a lot of the key competencies. Particularly participating and contributing. We also talked a bit about the biology of plants and different types of habitats that each plant would survive i
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? More planting opportunities, such as replanting the plants into bigger pots. Creating a menu that incorporates the plant they are growing. We talked a lot about values such as patience and responsibility.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kids knew about some of the plants and talked about the ones they already ate. They are more excited to try vegetables that they are growing themselves, rather than just what their parents put on their plate.
My class at Campbells Bay School really enjoyed the little garden league kit. We have been writing about what we have enjoyed most this year and most of my class wrote about the little garden league. I found planting them fairly easy, maybe having a couple of measuring cups up to 50mls would have been easier for the kids to measure the amount of water on their own- I found they needed quite a bit of assistance with this. I was able to get a kit only after the code breakers had started, so the dates for them being released didn't quite match up. The kids found this activity easy, but enjoyable. Growing the plants has been easy, however because of the varying germination times some of the kids have been a bit disheartened that even after two weeks theirs hasn't sprouted. This was particularly true with the mint plants. Overall, I would recommend doing this to other teachers and would love to do it again in the future.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We made pretty impressive Eric Carle-inspired plants and flowers as an Art lesson. As a Maths activity, we tried to match seeds to the correct plant, sorted them into groups by colour and size, and held a guessing competition how many seeds in a jar. Writ
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to expose the children to more code activities, set up a shop, try more 'scientific' writing.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? That what we do right from the beginning has an impact on the product at the end. We were able to help them make connections between what they had in their lunchboxes and what would be treat food.
The students loved the 'signing up to a league' aspect of the kit - they were very enthusiastic members and took heaps of responsibility for the care of the seeds as they grew into plants. We enjoyed sharing the songs about vegetables. With some of our younger students, the secret codes were quite a challenge and took more management than anticipated. So cool to hear kids talking enthusiastically about growing their own food.

The hands-on and interactive nature of this kit had my children sitting on the edge of their seats. It really tested their patience as every morning the kids came in and walked straight to their little gardens to see if they could see any changes. It was great to see them buy in to the project and has even changed some of their perspectives on vegetables. The materials and the instructions were simple yet effective for all ages. An all around great learning experience!
