In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We learn about science and how plants grow. We also did length and measurement - measuring how tall our plants grow

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are linking this plant study to our new unit this term on farming and what farms produce - where milk, eggs etc come from

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They know names of vegetables and enjoy planting them

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths - capacity &; measurement - measuring water and height. Collaboration - working together to help each other follow the instructions and sow the seeds. Problem solving / writing / logic - code breaking.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Gardening - to plant the growing seedlings. More maths - time - calculating when to plant/harvest. Measurement - if we have time/opportunities to prepare/cook the produce.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? More awareness of the connection between the soil/seeds and fresh vegetables. More awareness of different varieties of vegetables.

“The parcel generated great excitement in the classroom. The children were really engaged with the code breaking activities. They loved the hands on activity - following the instructions to sow their seeds in the little pots. Then watching as the seedlings emerged - students were really interested.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Growing vegetables - set a task on seesaw for the holidays. How to be eco warriors.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We spoke about the importance of eating vegetables. Some children had great knowledge of how to grow plants, some did not.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We could relate learning about vegetables growing and changing (seed, shoot, plant etc) to people growing and changing. We included related activities in our Learning Through Play lessons and used the theme in teaching numeracy and literacy.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Many children have come back to school after the holidays telling us about how they have since collected more plants from New World and are enthusiastic about their 'little gardens' they are growing at home. They seem more interested in trying different v

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children developed a better understanding of where vegetables come from, how they grow and what makes them good for us to eat. They seemed more keen to try different vegetables because they were growing them.

“The Little Garden kits have been fantastic! The children were so excited to plant the seeds and watch them grow. It was a great inspiration for children to learn about how plants change and grow and what is required to make them grow. It promoted spending time caring for something and seeing the results of that. Many students were quite amazed that they could grow a plant from a seed, themselves! It is such a practical kit and great for promoting healthy eating and responsibility.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used the plants to compare lengths and we introduced scientific language such as germination and wrote about the changes we sore.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The unhealthy eating habits are so entrenched with our families, it needs to be promoted year round.

“Love it. The children really encaged with the planting and loved to see the soil expand with the water. we learned the names of herbs and vegetables we had never heard before such as sage and borage. We didn't need the badges, stickers etc, the plants were enough to keep the children focussed.”
