In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning?
We did a lot of writing around the kits. For example, procedural writing on how to plant and care for the vegetable.
The students also had to use measurement (maths) of water to ensure they were not overwatering the plants.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit?
We have started to build a school garden and many of the plants provided in this kit will be put into the garden. Students have expressed interest in using the vegetable once grown to make meals and this is an area we would like to explore further.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating?
The kit has broadened student knowledge of what vegetables actually grow and how they can be used in meals. Students were able to make the link between eating healthy foods, such as fruit and vegetables, and being healthy.
