Lots of my students were adamant that they disliked the vegetables but found that they actually liked them. They become more open to trying new vegetables and fruit. We

The children have decided that they want to be responsible for our school garden and grow more vegetables for our community, They have been busy preparing our gardens and soil for planting. In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Fab science links especially about how plants grow....seeds into plants....conditions necessary for germination and growth.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The class wanted to learn more about how other plants grew from seed. They wanted to know if plants can grow any other ways- other than from seed.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We viewed and talked a lot about how veges were healthy for us.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We did a lot of writing around the kits. For example, procedural writing on how to plant and care for the vegetable. The students also had to use measurement (maths) of water to ensure they were not overwatering the plants.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have started to build a school garden and many of the plants provided in this kit will be put into the garden. Students have expressed interest in using the vegetable once grown to make meals and this is an area we would like to explore further.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kit has broadened student knowledge of what vegetables actually grow and how they can be used in meals. Students were able to make the link between eating healthy foods, such as fruit and vegetables, and being healthy.

“We really enjoyed working through the material provided as well as planting, taking care of and monitoring growth of plants. The student's interests were sparked and we were surprised at our budding gardeners who showed a commitment to learning more and looking after the plants.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We created art work, delved into biology of plants, explored literature about plants. It offered a lot more scope however time pressures did allow us to exhaust all the possibilities.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? It allowed opportunity for learning about the next step to growing a plant the transferring the seedlings to the garden and the growing and harvesting process to follow. It also opens up opportunity to try tasting different vegetables and possibly look at

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has made them aware of an array of vegetables however how they grow we are still unpacking the healthy eating aspect.

“The little garden was a great success in my classroom. The children were engaged and loved learning about plants, how they grow and how to take care of them. They especially loved being given their own plant to nurture and being given a badge to join the little garden club. Hopefully it will engage children to try new vegetables.”

“This was a fantastic kit. We were able to link it into our Hauora inquiry. The children were also able to set up the gardens to use for the garden to table program. Was also able to link it to digital technologies by using the electric garden. So many chances to link across the curriculum. Thanks for a fantastic learning opportunity. Would be good to start at the beginning of term to not have seedlings in the holidays.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It has linked fabulously into our Inquiry of Hauora, where we have learned about the importance of healthy eating for different aspects of wellbeing. In science we have learned about photosynthesis and how humans depend on plants for more than just food.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? In the coming weeks, we are doing more research into each plant to find out how they are used in cooking. “My kids and I loved this kit! The little pots and seed mats are really cute and the children loved going through the process of planting their seeds. Taking the pledge and getting to wear the badge was very exciting, and not to mention the code crackers - these had the whole class completely engaged! We have been watering and measuring, and in another week or so, we'll be ready to plant the first seedlings out.”
