What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to note the difference lighting makes to growth. Looking at and writing recipes and possibly poetry writing. For visual arts we are going to look at taking photos from different perspectives. Thank you for this opportunity

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children have taken greater risks in what they are prepared to try. Some were pleasantly surprised. At school I only provided raw vegetables and a little fruit for taste testing. Everyone tried everything!!!!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? How to prepare and cook vegetables

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children learned about different vegetables around the world. Vegetables from NZ gardens were brought in and they learned about ones above, below and on ground. Term 4 we will make a stir fry for lunch with children preparing the vegetables.

“What a fabulous opportunity for teachers, children and families alike. The seeds have been nutured with love and there has been huge excitement among the 6 -7 yr olds about the whole sprouting and growing process. A science focus emerged with literacy flowcharts and they loved making plasticine vegetables too. The concept of being in a club really set them off. They loved the badges and codes. A child brought in fresh Peas in a pod and all but one child tried them. We are continuing on in term 4 with this looking more at lunches and healthy eating. THANK YOU!!!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Students have been writing about their learning. They learnt the names of some vegetables in Te Reo Māori.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Students have the opportunity to become 'gardeners' in our learning space to continue to grow and protect our garden while learning what is involved in nurturing a garden. They are also looking at mini-beasts that are attracted to the plants in our garden

Students are more aware of where their food is coming from (not just bought from the supermarket) and how easy it is to grow healthy foods ourselves. In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It was interesting to see the discussions about different types of vegetables. They were starting to researching facts about vegetables and fruit and talking about these.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It was great for the children to gain a greater understanding of where food comes from. It also provided an opportunity for discussion around vegetables the children hadn't eaten before.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students have been bringing more vegetables in their lunchbox and finding new ways to incorporate their vegetables into everyday learning. A lot of thyme jokes!

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were able to integrate with a few areas of the curriculum. We were able to do sorting and graphing for maths. The children attempted procedural writing about what to do when you plant a seed.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are looking at cooking using vegetables this term. We are also looking at 'Vegetable Art.' Sketching vegetables and using vegetables as a focus / model for printing.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children became more aware of how vegetables were necessary to help them have a healthy body and mind.

“The children were very excited about becoming members of the club and receiving their badges. They loved watching the soil 'grow' and mashing it and putting it back in the pot. They were also excited that the plants were all different. They are excited to see what the plants look like when they are grown.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Growing our own food / tending our own gardens / looking into ENVIRO-Schools links

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Far more aware of the food choices they can make and how easy it is to grow these too.
