In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We are using Jack and the Beanstalk for literacy and maths learning activities. We also will be growing sunflowers. I have already mentioned our schoolwide inquiry to develop te ao Māori in relation to gardening.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? All of our planning is future focused at present. The new term has just started
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The conversations around home gardens and connections to what we are growing at school are increasing. The children are keen to try the things they are growing.
Most of our students have access to the little garden seeds both at home and at school and are very keen to keep learning about gardening. Our plan for Term 4 is to use te reo māori around the māra, growing our knowledge and tikanga schoolwide.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Through using this kit, the children were able to use their knowledge of measurement to discuss which plants were the tallest to shortest. We also used the plants as a topic for writing the progression of how a plant grows and what it needs to survive.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? - science - the children will continue to learn about how a plant grows and what it needs to survive. Our topic has been around Water so we will continue to learn how plants suck up the water and how much water is contained in each vegetable.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children learnt about different types of vegetables through planting and the vegetable matching game. All the children were eager to try different vegetables.
The children in my class were so excited about their Little Garden. When they first saw the box, they eagerly wanted to start building the letter box with a little help from me (this is a 5 year old class). They enjoyed writing the cards and making them into envelopes. They loved the sense of the ‘special mission’. They also understood the moto well of ‘grow, protect, taste.’ They loved the badges too as it made them feel a sense of responsibility. They all were able to plant two plants and watched them grow. Every day there would be undirected conversations about plants!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We did vegetable tasting reviews - like a book review using a thumbs up system We looked at life cycles of plants and what they need to live We graphed our favourite vegetables
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? we are now moving into continuing to use our brave muscles (when we tried foods we were not sure about) and using that experience to try new things in our learning and to set a brave goal to achieve before the end of the year ie. try a new sport, go down
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We focused on the idea of eating a variety of fruits and vegetables to be healthy. We all tried at least one new vegetable.
The kit was super easy to set up. The kids engaged with the characters Was a really good starting point for us to start exploring taking risks (trying new foods) and moving into term 4 building on this.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Our story for the term was Jack and the beanstalk, which obviously has the theme of growing from seed. So the kids got to see parallels between lessons.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? For the kids to learn about where their food comes from, and to have a sense of adventure in their diet. Also lessons in regards to respecting nature and the environment could follow on too.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Talked about it with the kids, learned about healthy and unhealthy food. I'm pretty sure lots of the kids have taken these messages home.
Lovely kit, plants all grow well. I teach new entrant, so the secret codes were all a bit advanced for the little ones, but they thoroughly enjoyed the planti g and growing their own little gardens.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This resource related nicely to all key competencies e.g. managing self, thinking, participating and contributing.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Children were so interested in the aspect of growing plants and their needs and how they can help that we have ended up with our own class garden.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We learnt about different vegetables and herbs and what they could taste like.
My class of year 1 learners loved this kit so much. It reinforced skills like being responsible and looking after things. The excitement each morning when my learners came into the classroom was amazing. They loved coming in to see if there were any changes to their seeds overnight (it really helped as I have a few that have anxiety due the lockdowns). Thank you for this great resource and can't wait for next years.
