In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We measured the growth of plants for a bit of maths. One student forgot to put the seedling in - so a lot of discussion around when/how will we know which pot doesnt have seeds - science.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Our next top is the science of food. How does food change with pressure, hot, cold etc. We will also watch a seed germinate in a plastic bag so we can see what was happening under the soil.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? When talking about protecting our veges, kids realised how many different types of food they couldn't eat without vegetables or fruit. (albiet some unhealthy foods too!)

“The kit was amazing. Kids loved planting the seeds, decoding the secret messages and telling others about vegetables. The veggies were easy to plant and the instructions were straight forward. The display tray was a great idea as it definitely added a little cute freshness to our classroom. My Year 3s absolutely enjoyed telling other students about their work and inviting others to have a look at the plants. The instructions were easy for the teacher to follow too as there was a step by step lesson plan. So overall it was awesome!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We looked at digestion and what happens to our food once we have eaten it. Measurement - how tall have the seedlings grown? Colours - Te Reo Maori and Samoan colours. Mixing colours.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will continue to use the kit over term 4, we've planted the seedlings and we are very excited to eat some of the fruits of our labour!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We learnt about the importance of trying new things. It's important to give things a go, sniff it, lick it and then have a little nibble!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Students took photos of their own gardens at home. New ideas for planting activities during the school holidays.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I think that through the observation of all parts of planting and growth they are able to see how vegetables end up from garden to table. I intend to continue growth and bring vegetables into teaching about recipes and through cooking.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? New knowledge of vegetables. Discussions about what are their favourites. What nutrients are within some vegetables.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths through growth measurement , a lot of literacy opportunities. The children enjoyed drawing illustrations of their vegetables.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Great for a future focus on sustainability - also ties in to our own school garden and garden club and how we could become an enviro school.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We spent time counting the vegetables and measuring the growth daily. The students were using oral language with the excitement of what was happening and changing each day - every morning they would come in and check the growth that had happened.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The students are eager to do more growing and planting in Term 4. We are also going to be doing a unit on healthy minds and healthy bodies.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It was great to see what food they already had knowledge about. The students were interested in bringing the seeds home and trying the produce with their families.

I really enjoyed teaching this school kit, we haven't done one as a class before so it was very exciting for the students. The letterbox was quite tricky to put together.”
