“Thank you so much for The Little Garden Kit. The children were very excited when it arrived in class. They loved the activities associated with the kit. They enjoyed writing and posting their letters and also doing the secret code . Some of my younger students needed some help with this and it was wonderful to see cooperative learning and buddy help. The planting and looking after of the seedlings was a great hands on activity for all the students. A very well used and appreciated educational kit. Thank you.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Going from here the importance of insects to plants-The only thing I didn't like was putting the house together but they loved the process of posting.Many thanks for providing Room 6 with a wonderful school kit

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We all have a better understanding of what we are eating and where does it come from. Even took it down to freshness and buy local produce and how old some of the fruit and vege we eat .

“Sorry this is late -Room 6 have thoroughly enjoyed the Little Garden school kit-and don't forget the secret club with motto which all the tamariki bought into. We have watched them grow-painted bigger pots to put them into and which they all took home at the end of term. As there was enough for each tamariki to do two seedlings the one that didn't go home has been planted in the school vegetable garden.”

“It is a great start and support for my students to understand how seeds grow and the duration for the germination of seeds. It is learning they can take home and discuss with their families. What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are learning about insects this term. Insects are a living thing too - sort of slides nicely into each other.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? the LGL story comes to mind .... or was it the motto ... 'just one bite'. I was amazed nobody said ";yuck veges!";

“Hi, I'm a release teacher in a MLE junior Koru school syndicate. But I ordered a kit anyway. Because most teachers had ordered them, so it allowed me to be up with what they were doing. We shared the extra plants around the different home groups. Because of covid our kits arrived late, and we had to finish off our other work. So it was a bit rushed. I was involved with one group at the very beginning brainstorming about what they knew about veges. One boy said, only flowers grow in the garden, not veges, you get those from the supermarket. I felt he probably wasn't alone thinking this. Anecdotally our senior teacher told me about the excitement when they joined the secret club and got their badges. I was involved in doing procedural writing with the children on how to plant a seedling. They'd already planted them the day before. They all lined up and had a turn spraying their plants. Their normal teacher carried on the next day with the procedural writing and it went well. the plants started to sprout before the holidays. The magic of science. Thanks it was great.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Thinking about creating seedling superheroes so the children turn their plant into a superhero. They will need to think about their seedlings powers for good (or evil)

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children talked about looking forward to tasting the plants when they were big enough and we thought about how we could eat those foods. We also talked about 5+ a day and why its important to know where food comes from.

“The class loved this project from the day they walked in and saw the club members photo on the wall and the LGL Clubhouse. They really enjoyed code cracking and planting the seedlings. They learned about the water cycle and the plant life cycle while we worked through the project. They were very responsible water the plants and tracking the progress of the little plants.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My students were very keen share stories about trying new things at home. They also loved sharing that they had tried something that they didn't enjoy. We had discussions about the importance of eating a balanced diet.
