In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? I used the secret codes during my reading lessons and the students loved these and made up their own little codes. We looked at the differences between a fruit and a vegetable and types of leaves.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We tend to grow seeds in class that germinate and sprout quickly, it has been good to have discussions around the different lengths of time these seeds take and make comparisons. When we get to do more tasting of what we have grown, Im sure the students w
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have had a lot of discussion around this and will continue in term 4 when we can taste what we have grown and incorporate some into our Technology inquiry.
This kit was a fabulous addition to our inquiry into the living world. My students were able to use some of their prior knowledge in this kit.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? So much authentic learning in this kit. Apart from the science of the growth process of the plants, there was the opportunity to use maths as we measured their growth. We used writing in the application process and decoding the secret messages, IT using t
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? If we had had time to complete the growth process, we could have harvested the vegetables and used them to cook, allowing for writing recipes and instructions. We could have let some plants go to seed and plant those seeds to see if we could keep the grow
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children had varying degrees of knowledge about the different vegetables and plants contained within the kit. The flowers were especially intriguing and the fact that they could be eaten was astounding. Most children had tried the most common variety
The class loved the application process and the mystery surrounding the LGL. So much fun and oral language used identifying, discussing and tasting the different variety of vegetables, and also coming up with our best vegetable jokes. The badges were a big hit but many of the pins broke immediately which was disappointing for the children. The codes were also a big hit and the children were keen to make up their own. We loved watching the plants grow and measuring them. They grew within a few days but it would have been more advantageous to have started the growing process earlier in the term. They only had a couple of weeks to grow before the school holidays and it was too difficult to look after them on the school premises. Most were not big enough to be planted out so I sent the plants home with the children instead of continuing the process to completion at school and eventually harvesting the vegetables. I would really have loved this to be a longer activity that did not go over the school holidays.

I thought the unit was a fantastic resource with lots of opportunities for numeracy, science and literacy links. My students were engaged and love it. The timing was good as it was well spaced out and gave flexibility in my programme.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used the germination and repotting times in maths. We read the Hungry Caterpillar book and made our own, Eric Carle inspired vegetable art. We read a number of articles about gardens and seeds during reading and discussed vocabulary (eg germination).
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have a team garden. The things we have learned from this kit will help us plan and plant it.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children talked a lot about the various vegetables. It linked in well with the Life Education unit we did at the beginning of the term.
The children were excited and engaged from day 1. Every morning they would come in and check the progress of their plants. Lockdown meant that we were later starting but it was a great introduction back to school.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children drew a picture of and 'wrote a story' about their favourite vegetable and it was that vegetable they were sent by the '24' to grow so in that respect the children pretty much stuck to what they knew and didn't really branch out to try anything ne
My New Entrant class was super excited to be a part of the Little Garden League. The build up to getting the seedling was great and I was able to keep the kids fizzing with excitement and &; wonder about what was coming up next. Children loved the code cracking messages and a couple tried to make their own which was great.
