How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Due to covid we had a lot of whole-school and inter-tribe (house) competitions later in the term. With the time restrictions, we didn't get to explore as much of this as we could have. However, we did explore math (measurement), science of living things,
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? As warmer weather comes we will be nurturing some of our seedlings in our garden plot, alongside our beans. We hope to care for and protect these and maybe in some cases get a chance to taste test using our plants to make our own kai before the end of the
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Our classroom already had a bean growing project this term. This kit enabled us to build our vocabulary and discussions to include a wide variety of vegetables. Learners loved learning the names of our seedlings and making the links to the food they eat.
Thank you for the amazing mystery pack we received this past term. The kids were really excited to open it up, build our Little Garden space in the classroom. The information cards and kit design were a real hook. The minute the kids saw these they were eager to get going. The hands-on components of planting and caring for the seedlings were really engaging. Some of the extra activities around the code were a bit too complicated for my younger learners. However, across the class, we used and responded to these things in different ways sharing what we learnt. One aspect that, in my opinion, could have been improved was in regards to plant identification. My class were really interested in learning to name the plants (vegetables). I found this somewhat of a challenge as I didn't know all these names! The card with the names on it was helpful, but with small writing in black and white was probably not used independently by the children as much as a bigger more colourful booklet may have been. This was a minor issue but is something that the learners in my class would have loved. Thanks again for supplying such an awesome kit. The learners were very excited to be hands-on and connected to planting our garden. It was great to have enough resources for each child. I just need more garden space at school to make the most of it! Thank You!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used the game in the classroom for independent activity and the children love it. Our overarching theme at school has been solidarity and the children have certainly worked together to create lovely art and structures. We follow a play-based learning p
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Next term's theme is stewardship and we know that this kit is perfect for it. We will be looking at how to look after ourselves and then how to care for our environment and plan for the future.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have been trying new foods, beginning with kale already growing in the school gardens.
This kit is a great success in our room. We enjoyed the jokes submitted and made a great deal of children and adults in the room becoming LGL members. I even wore a special dress of the occasion.. one with all fruit and veges grown in NZ! The children were so excited and we had lots of comments from parents about how this was evident at home too. Planting and caring for the seedlings has been awesome. Every morning the children come and examine the pots.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Using our maths / measurement skills, writing (doing procedural writing) and then writing from the plant's view point - all inspired by the kit. More reading about children gardening - so much fun and great learning.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? All the children are keen to continue gardening at home and our school garden has a new lease of life. Thank you!
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has improved their understanding of food a lot - they want to try all the vegetables now that they have helped grow them! Great result.
Fantastic! My students loved the story that was wrapped around the kit with their teacher as one of the central characters! They had so much fun cracking the codes. We used measurement skills to track the growth of the plants - what a great kit!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The nature of science-students were asking questions, making observations and wonderings about their seedlings, there was the opportunity to measure their growth and create diagrams. Quick Writes/Shorts writes around their seed's characters.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Pollination, Bee Protection
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? many students gained a knowledge of vegetables they had not seen or eaten before and were more likely to want to try them as a result of watching the seeds sprout and seeing their classmates sample them.
The kit engaged the class and they loved having to submit an application to be members of the LGL and wore their badges with pride.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This worked perfectly with cross-curricular in literacy as we read stories about plants, and wrote stories about plants- plus we were also looking at the lifecycle with explanation writing. This also worked perfectly with health as you could go into a bod
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This worked perfectly within a Play-based learning environment as we are able to get our garden up and running and so this will allow the children to become in charge of the garden and grow their vegetables.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to really explore this aspect of healthy eating and nutrition. Hopefully, in this coming term, we will have more of a focus as our plants are now growing and will allow for the children to experience new vegetable
What an amazing kit! Loved the letterbox, the badges, and the plants. Was awesome working with the children on developing plant knowledge and learning about healthy food to it. The plan of what to do when was awesome, this meant I could just follow it but also put my own spin on when needed. Thank you so much New World and School Kit for a fabulous opportunity and learning experience for my children.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were able to use the resource for writing - how to plant seeds, what plants need to grow etc. We also integrated into our reading and science/topic programmes.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children were keen to investigate the possibility of re-planting vegetable gardens near our classroom that have been empty for ages. They were also keen to find out more about cooking with what they are growing - the concept of garden to table.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? t was great to see them excited about healthy eating and in some cases trying something new to eat. It definitely raised awareness of the importance of good nutrition and different kinds of vegetables .
The resource was very high interest right from the start. It fitted in very well, as earlier in the term we had been studying the sun/heat etc and had already grown alfalfa and bean plants. The children were very keen to share their knowledge and to have new things to grow. They enjoyed taking care of the plants and watching them grow. They were very excited to take the plants home!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were counting the vegetables and measuring the growth. We were constantly using oral language with the excitement of what was happening and changing each day. We read books and spotted things/words we have been learning about - vegetables, soil, health
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? How we look after things, ourselves and taking on responsibilities. More growing - we're moving into beans and sunflowers next term, student request. Measurement - measuring other things, not just the plants. Helping others, getting in our school ga
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students had lots of conversations on a daily basis about the vegetables growing and often linked back to lunchbox conversations. Many did not know the names of vegetables at the start of the term - now many know most of the vegetables, and if they dont -
Our class has never done a school kit before, this was an amazing experience for us all. We were excited by the giant box which provided a lot of mystery, then to create our own garden was an exciting opportunity to do, watch, explore. Our friends at home still doing home learning were our code crackers and were able to actively be a part of the programme too from a distance. It was a great learning opportunity for all, with many motivated to start their own gardens at home and for us to continue gardening at school - a great learning experience with an opportunity to pay it forward to our school garden.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The students wrote about their LGL membership and some posted videos to Seesaw explaining to their friends and families what their badges meant.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The kit has sparked an interest in gardening for many, which will tie in well to our Term 4 inquiry unit about Planet Earth.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The application form was fun and got the students thinking about their own attitudes to vegetables. They have been excited to tell me and their friends about the gardening display at New World and encouraging each other to check out the vegetable sectio
We loved the story of how the Little Garden League came into being, and the students enjoyed hearing that their teacher was secretly involved! They also loved researching and presenting their vegetable jokes, and receiving their badges. The first secret coded message was popular, but interest waned a little after the first one (perhaps too long?) The best part was receiving an individual seed each. It was lovely how engaged they were with planting the seeds and tending to the seedlings. This was my first School Kit and I was very impressed.
