The growing seedings have created interest in the class. The set of books that we found in the library allowed us to extend our knowledge of vegetables and growing plants. The code cracking that I had thought would be too difficult for the lower children was meet with enthusiasm and perseverance. I will be giving them more code cracking tasks next term.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Health - healthy eating. Science - the growing of the plants. Literacy - writing their plant diaries. Reading - reading journal stories that are connected with the growing of their plants. Maths - measuring how much they had grown.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have a gardening club at school and a couple of teachers have their own little planters. It would be a great idea if we could get planters of fresh herbs that the children could eat.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They were very excited about being able to eat their plants - many children have posted photos on our class dojo, showing how much care they are taking of them.
I had a student teacher in my class for almost the whole of Term 3 - she did an amazing job of inspiring the children to join the little garden club, write their applications etc. All the children were very excited. This linked in well with our topic of life cycles, and my student teacher focused on the life cycles of plants. The children took their plants home and wrote a plant diary about how their plants were doing.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They have become more aware of a wider range of vegetables and herbs. They are excited to bring in vegetable snacks as part of their brain break options.
The unit was fantastic, the children loved being part of a 'secret' and took this idea very seriously. They loved the story behind the members and how they were taking on a responsibility to teach others. They especially loved learning about vegetables and herbs and many didn't know more than a few basic vegetables. Over the course of the unit they learnt more about vegetables and plants and tried lots of new vegetables in class with their friends.

This has been fantastic learning for my new entrant/year one class and had so many opportunities to branch of into different directions. The plants were nice and easy to plant with a young ag group of children. We built a lot of oral language from all the videos on your site and the badges were a fantastic touch for our little ones. We are one of the school getting the free lunches next term so this was great to incorporate into what we were doing. Lots of talk about healthy foods and what we can make with the plants what we are growing. We are looking forward to continue to see our plants grow. Thank you!

My tamariki in my akomanga LOVED the build up to what is in the box? Our inquiry is Change therefore this was complimentary to that learning. Capturing their excitement and willingness to learn about the life cycle of a plant brought out loads of discussion. We have a school garden so learning about how to care for our mara kai and being kaitiaki of papatuanuku helped the children to understand why it is important to care for her. We will continue to look at healthy eating and how we could prepare our mara kai for this in term 4.
