In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Lots of literacy opportunities. Good maths measurement. Fun art too
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Class garden to grow our own vegetables for cooking healthy meals at school. Teaching tamariki basic but healthy meals. Herb gardens on the deck.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children definitely willing to try different vegetables, expanding from their usual potatoes and carrots. Hardly any of them knew what herbs were so that was a lot of fun trying the different herbs! We now have a herb garden growing on our deck.
The kids really loved the storyline. They were so eager to me LGL members. I loved watching them keep track of their seedlings and compare growth rates with some of their peers seedlings. I found it was an eye opener to observe what the children did and don’t know about herbs and vegetables. There is still so much learning to be done! It has motivated us to get raised garden beds at school, grow vegetables and create delicious , healthy meals to enjoy. Teaching our tamariki essential life skills. Thank you!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children made a watering device that would self water plants for a period up to 5 days. In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My class became very aware that foods from papatuanuku are accessible and healthy. Everyone was open to taste vegetables in class, some for the first time. We were able to express opinions on taste and texture while figuring out what we like and dont like
We absolutely loved being apart of New Zealands fastest growing club. The Little Garden League brought excitment to growing and protecting their very own plant - which they did very well. We learnt how to be protectors of seeds as we watched them germinate into seedlings. We were able to eat from our school garden with more interest and understanding of care. The children took their plants home over the holidays with a goal to continue being true to the LGL Motto.

The little seedling kit brought about so much excitement for growing and having the responsibility for their own seedling. The students came in each morning excited to see the progress and growth. The students couldn't wait to take their seedling home and begin, or add to, their home garden.

The Pack was amazing! Filled with hands on activities for the children. The Pack was levelled correctly for year 0/1 children and the activities fitted into our class unit very well. The children were so excited watching their plants grow. They enjoyed cracking the codes from the little league too. It was very interesting how many children had not been introduced to different vegetables at home e.g. capsicum. Great learning adventure. Especially after coming back to school after second lockdown in Auckland.

We loved the Little Garden Kit in Room 6! Instructions and ideas were easy to follow. The kids all loved watching their seedlings and taking care of them. The code crackers were also a huge hit! The matching game went a bit over the heads of my 5 year olds, but that was the only issue we had. Great fun!
