How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used the questionnaires as a wonderful literacy activity. There was so much literary value in these and they generated so much discussion and oral language. We used the our maths for working out how much water was needed for the soil to hydrate and enc
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Looking after our plants has given the children ownership and responsibility. They are understanding that everything needs care and attention for it to grow healthily, and transferred that knowledge to thinking about what we put into our own bodies to kee
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children have developed a good understanding of the goodness that homegrown food has as opposed to pre-packed food.
This was a fantastic opportunity for all children to be part of the Little Garden project as some families need to shop mindfully, and their children miss out. keeping the project 'top secret' from other classes made this very exciting and the children were delighted to be the holders of knowledge that others did not have. Having the membership badges and cards was an added bonus and the children were proud to wear their badges each day. However, the badges were not robust enough for the young children and the pins snapped off after a couple of days. Other than that, this was a great success and the children are looking forward to harvesting their own homegrown produce.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Prediction - which would grow 1st/tallest. Writing recount - what did we have to do?, science growing towards the light, watering and how do we know if they need water? How does growing our own vegetables help our planet? Digital tech.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Learning about the benefits of plants/trees to our planet. Carbon footprints. Learning about plants and why they grow towards the light.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? If anything it made the children curious about the different vegetables such as Kale, and children telling each other what they have eaten before etc.
My class enjoyed planting their little garden as much as watching them begin to grow! Students were great at making sure all gardens were watered and telling others if they saw any growth in their 'pot'.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They are bringing veges to school for snacks and they are naming the characters. They love comparing lunchboxes to see what each other has.
The children loved getting the Little Gardens. They worked together to plant them, we also had some great writing come out of it. They are excited to see the plants grow and we are now making a garden in school to plant them in. We will also try cooking some vegetables next term.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used it in maths to graph the vegetables growth, children's favourite vegetable graphs and also writing about our favourite vegetable and what it looks like.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This helped support the gardening club at our school - more children now wanted to join the school garden club and learn more about the vegetables we already have growing at our school.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It enabled discussions around names of different vegetables - some the children didnt know their names or what they looked like. It made way for discussions around what is healthy eating, vitamins that they need etc.
The children loved planting and watching the veges grow. The absolutely loved getting a badge and working out the codes.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It was quite interesting when having korero with our more capable students. One student when asked what her favourite vegetable was she said ";sausages"; but now she can proudly say she likes ";brocolli";. Some students did not know that you grow vegetabl
I teach children with Special needs with a wide variety of learning needs, knowledge, modes of learning. But they all enjoyed the hands on aspect that this learning provided for them. For some children it was purely sensory e.g. exploring the soil, seeds and lots of fun watering their ";little gardens"; for other children it was the excitement of observing what was going to happen and caring for their ";little gardens";. It was super gorgeous as children walked into class in the morning knowing that one of their jobs was to ";care for their little gardens";. We can't wait to see what has happened after the holidays

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We related it to science as well as maths. We counted the seedlings and the pottles. We talked about how plants grow and what they need. We cared for our plants.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We were a little pressed for time, so Next time I’d like to focus more on trying out different vegetables, graphing the growth rates and writing stories about what we see happen.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We talked about the various vegetables. We showed children the food pyramid and talked about 5+ a day. If we had longer on this unit (before school holidays) would’ve been great to bring examples of grown Veges and try them.
Thoroughly enjoyed the Little Garden. Children enjoyed the hands on experience of creating their own little seedling. They loved watching them sprout and then we planted them in the school garden. The letterbox was cute and children liked the badges. Children worked on codes in groups with some adult assistance.
