In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have had great discussion about the benefits of eating fruit and veges and now students are excited when they have these in their lunchboxes and cant wait to try some from our kit.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Caring for our environment and our garden in the future. They realise there are many plants we can eat and some of them they have never tried so are looking forward to eating them once they have grown. We have spoken about the value and goodness of growing and eating food which we have grown ourselves and that

“My students have really enjoyed the process of talking about what we are planting and why. The were very excited when the seeds began to grow and loved taking care of them. In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The children really enjoyed decoding the secret messages, we used the codes to practice our spelling words. We also practiced writing instructions, using the planting process as an exemplar.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Over the holidays the children have all taken home their little garden to care for while at home. It is their responsibility to remember the things the plants need to grow.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Fortunately we had been focusing on healthy eating this term anyway so the kit sat nicely alongside our healthy eating topic learning. It encouraged the kids to try different vegetables.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The kit lent itself to our science, maths (measurement), health, reading and writing.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Planting the seedlings in the school garden and sharing our knowledge and produce with the other children.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children have been encouraged to try some different vegetables (clue 3 was great for this too). It has also high lighted a need as many children did not know what a lot of the vegetables were.

“My class is year 3 and 4 and they really enjoyed participating in the LGL. They completed their application and loved having their club 'interview'. At this level the children were motivated to solve the clues and to get the next clue. They are enjoying growing the plants, reading the stories/articles and we are looking forward to planting the seedlings in the school garden after the holidays. Thanks so much for the opportunity to New World for us to be able to participate in this activity.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It was very easy to incorporate the names of various vegetables into maths concepts. Word stories became focussed on vegetables. We could write the procedure for growing a plant. We can become aware of how we can grow our own food and save ourselves money

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? When the plants have grown, we can learn how to add them to our garden. When they begin to produce vegetables we will be able to taste them and create amazing dishes.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have been introduced to a number of delicious vegetables through this process. We can name all of the vegetables that we have tried at home.

“There was such excitement in my classroom as the pack arrived at school. The next day, the clubhouse was established and the tamariki were given the opportunity to own and make a plant, crack a code and belong to something bigger than just our school community. They are highly engaged with seeing just how much their plants have grown over every morning. We can’t wait to put them into our B5 garden and taste some new vegetables.”

It brought to the children's attention all the various types of vegetables that there are (they loved learning the names of the founding club members). The question we used to join our club was tell us your favourite vegetable - this brought about lots o

“Little Garden League was lots of fun and inspired children to learn about, eat and try to grow different vegetables. Children loved the badges, pledge cards and secret codes. Some badges fell apart so it was great to have a few extras. Thanks New World for the great kit!”
