In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Opportunities for reading and writing with the applications, algebra with the code breaking, following instructions, and co-operative learning.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Encourages trying new things, perseverance.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It promoted great discussion, but we weren't able to share food due to Covid restrictions. We were not able to spend long enough on the topic to get the most out of it.

“Due to Covid interruptions and the fact that we were also doing a different focus for Inquiry, we weren't able to do as much as we would have liked. If we knew well in advance what the kits were going to be, we could make sure our school planning fitted with it. Then we would have been able to make better use of the wonderful resources. The set up suggestions made it fun and exciting and the children bought into the premise. The stickers fell off the pottles and the label cards fell out easily making it tricky to keep track of whose plant was whose.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Learning to look after other living things and thinking deeply about what is required to keep things alive.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? My class were very interested in the new vegetables and edible flowers/herbs in the kit. Some were shocked they could be eaten.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The children loved the codes, and it encouraged oral language particularly with children speaking as English as another language.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I could have done so much more if there was No COVID. We got to start after the supermarket promotion had started and some of the kids had already started.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? No food sharing due to COVID however it promoted a lot of conversation and discussion.

“The kit was great! Sadly I didn't know what I was getting, having never done any of the kits before, and so I tipped the box and dirt went everywhere and some labelling stickers got mixed up. The stickers didn't all stick and they fell off. Labelling the box to not tip it would have helped me. I also think it is a shame that we don't know what the kits will be a year ahead i.e. now for next year as we could make sure time and planning works with this so that we could give it the justice it deserves.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Children spent a lot of time on the codes, and it encouraged oral language, particularly for our ESOL children.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children have been able to take their planting home to share with their families. They are keen to share their plant's progress over the holiday break.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were keen to discuss what they eat at home and encourage each other to try new foods. We couldn't have any food sharing due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“Children were very excited about being part of a Secret Club! They loved having a guess at what might be in the box. Due to Covid-19 and being in Auckland we didn't have the time we wanted to spend on the kit, and probably didn't give it the justice it deserved.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Gosh, where to start. This learning experience crossed over into so many different curriculums. Reading, Writing, Maths, Science, Music. We even had students using drama to portray how a seed grows. Very cute!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The options are limitless. We now want to create our own vege gardens at home and school using the seedlings from New World.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It got kids excited and talking about the veges they love and different ways they eat and enjoy them!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? As the plants hadn't grown to the eating stage, kids didn't actually try new vegetables. That is something I could do as an extra however. They learnt the names of a few new vegetables, and may now consider trying them.
