In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Improved their knowledge of different types of vegetables. They were asking for more veges in their lunchboxes so they could compare their vegetable to the seedling. We will continue to build on this next term when we do some cooking with vegetables.

“This was an amazing kit, had the children hooked from the start! They loved the idea of a secret league and having to apply to be members. The badges, are proudly worn on their school hats. Lots of discussions about vegetables, growing techniques, whose plant was growing fastest. They loved referring to the chart to see how long seeds took to sprout and be ready to eat. We will be continuing this kit next term, planting our seedlings in our school garden. The resources were great, the children enjoyed the letterbox and the codes were a huge hit. Our senior class enjoyed coming in each morning to see how the plants were growing and our class loved telling them about it. We are looking forward to cooking next term with some of our veges when they are ready. I was amazed by the vegetables that children weren't familiar with. We are going to have some interesting taste testing when our veges are ready! Now I just need to keep them alive through the holidays thanks very much for such an awesome kit.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Loved this as we did a mini inquiry based on vegetables and seeds. We did lots of literacy based activities on it.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are doing an engineering inquiry in Term 4. The students are going to use the garden and vegetable growing to inspire their engineering questions and ideas.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We had great discussions based off of this resource. It was great to investigate what veges we had tried.

The kids have learnt the names of vegetables that they hadn't had much contact with before (everything they didn't know was a cabbage to start with!!).

Our seedlings have been transplanted for our wonderful caretaker to look after over the term break before we plant them in our school garden as part of our Garden to Table term - what amazing timing and perfect way to get the kids even more excited (if that could have even be possible). In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used this kit to support our literacy programme - keeping a diary of plant growth, writing instructions for how to plant seeds. We went further and planted other seeds and not just the little garden ones. We planned and planted a school vege patch.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This kit encouraged us to start our own school vege garden. We hope to grow and nurture our own school veges and eventually taste! The children have been given the responsibility of caring for the garden.
