What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We restablished the school garden because of the children’s motivation in this learning!
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We had a huawhenua banquet and every child tried a new vegetable/s. Immediately, there was an increase of cut up vegetables in lunchboxes for brainfood and kai iti.
An absolutely fantastic resource that had learners completely motivated to get absorbed and engaged in the learning. Every step of the process had children excited to jump into the learning. The kit provided opportunities to connect learning to other areas of the curriculum; maths with recording growth on bar graphs, measuring out water (2/4 of the pottle for water etc), science, writing recount or instructions of the seed planting process and captions for Seesaw posts, reading/writing for code breaking, Health and PE Hauora for health and wellbeing with diet, growing own veges etc and Social Sciences contributing to your whānau and community through gardening etc and belonging to a group and Te Reo Māori learning the Māori vegetable names. From engaging in this school kit many children in my class have started other gardening at home including bringing in Kumara and potatoes for use to plant in buckets at school. Great selection of vegetables and herbs. Children have grown a love for gardening through this learning.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Our topic this term was Eco-systems and interconnections between plants, animals and humans. We also focused on Well being and the importance of connecting with the nature. We have created 'Nature Journals' and spent a short time in nature every day, usin
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Next term I will focus on cooking. We will use vegetables in recipes and explore healthy eating further. I would really like this kit to be available next year as well. I have tried some other kits but they were not as well suited to year 3 children as t
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were encouraged to taste 'new' vegetables. I was pleasantly surprised how they enjoyed tasting raw beetroot, spring onion, kale and parsley. Some initially said I don't like... but seeing their peers taste everything that was offered, they also h
My Year 3 Class has loved the Little Garden Kit. They enjoyed every step of this learning adventure, starting from making envelopes with their applications, decoding secret messages, growing their seedlings, creating 'characters' and tasting different vegetables.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? we are continuing with this next term and growing our own school garden fruit and veges and using these to take kids for cooking lessons - how to incorportae veges into their food. We are also teaming this nutrition side with the Zespri health and fitness
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Kids learnt about how things grow - what plants need to be healthy (watering with water instead of fizzy) and relating this to our own bodies. Students also learnt where food and veges originate from - not from the supermarket or a packet but from the gar
The kids loved having the responsibility of planting and growing their own seedlings. It was great for some of them to see how food begins out and how things grow - where food really comes from rather than in a packet. Once the seedlings had produced food it was such a great opportunity for kids to try some veges that they had never eaten before and wouldn't usually try but because they had grown it themselves they were interested to taste.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Measuring- when we planted we discussed the different times they would take, we had to measure 50 ml of water and plant a cm down. Responsibility- they had to water their own plants and be careful not to knock them all over.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I am planning on growing beans in plastic bags next term, so they can see the roots and seed growing. I am looking forward to hearing about whose plant grew over the holidays. Most of the children were eager to try/ eat their own vegetable but some of th
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They talked about and learnt about vegetables they had not heard of. They enjoyed the snap game.
My class thoroughly enjoyed their little gardens particularly as we do not have a new world in our little town. If I am able to do this next year, I would plant them sooner so we watch them grow- when I sent them home for the holidays only a few had started to grow. This was great for discussion but disappointing for those whose plants were not yet growing. The secret messages were well received. this was an opportunity for buddy work as some of my year 2's would not be able to do this independently.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? There was a great science focus around the health and wellbeing of the plant life cycles and we explored mathematical concepts around measurement and retelling learning through literacy.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Future learning would definitely be a greater school wide focus on horticulture. We would love to get more whanau involved on a bigger scale by re-establishing our school/community garden and perhaps learning about tree care for our current fruit trees.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This kit has supported our tamariki in their awareness of the plant to plate concept. Many tamariki are used to buying their kai from the supermarket so it was great to support learning around how to grow their on kai.
This is my first time having a school kit and wow I was so impressed with it! We have a school wide focus on health, wellbeing and hauora and this has been a fantastic resource to support our focus. Thank you so much for this wonderful resource kit and opportunity, what an absolute blessing to our tamariki and kura :)
