We were doing measurement for maths so the chn were able to measure and graph progress of all the plants; they could compare and analysise their statistics. We always have a focus on resilience and self-management and the little garden project worked ni

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Gardening, cultivating their own gardens and planning. There was alot of science involved in the little garden work; soil science, plant science and animal science. the unit also links nicely to a bee study and the impt of bees in the gardening world.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I think it highlights to the chn how big and how much scope there is in eating within the vegetable range. There are so many vegetables and because we had younger chn they weren't even sure of some of the vegeable and flower names but after being invovled

“These kids were fantatic; the children loved learning about growing vegetables and they coincided with us planting our pumpkins for the harvest festival in the Autumn. The chn were able to learn the skills and fundamentals about growing which quite a few of them took a step further and got involved in gardening at home. We loved the selection of seedlings available and the children loved comparing the seedlings timing; I have kept a few going in the gardens at school so the chn can follow the progress of them.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Children now have their seedlings at home. They can post pictures on our year 3/4 page of the progress as they move from pot to garden. Bringing the learning home. Hopefully get to eat their project!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Vegetables grown from seeds. Variety of plants. Many unknown to the children prior to this experience

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Between Science and technology - great links. They wrote about what they had done to plant the seeds - procedural writing.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Continuing to grow plants from seeds in our class garden outdoors. Raising our own seeds. Being more aware of where food actually comes from.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Talking about vegetables and how they grow. Why they are good for us and why we should eat them. We looked at the seeds and then got some vegetables for the kids to try before we planted them. Most were very keen to plant and grow their own vegetables.

“Great opportunity for the kids to have a go at growing vegetables. Such cute packs. We don't live near a New world so many of the students hadn't seen them before and this added to the excitement.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used this kit to support our literacy programme - keeping a diary of plant growth, writing instructions for how to plant seeds. We went further and planted other seeds and not just the little garden ones. We planned and planted a school vege patch.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This kit encouraged us to start our own school vege garden. We hope to grow and nurture our own school veges and eventually taste! The children have been given the responsibility of caring for the garden.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Promoting this unit through my class newsletter brought parents on board. Some parents told me the children were not willing to give some vegetables a try at home. Some children had started their own little vegetable gardens. We did some taste testing at

“This kit was perfect for my New Entrant class. It was hands on, authentic learning and was engaging for all. The children loved the idea of the club - badges, secret codes, messages from HQ.. This made it so much fun for the children.”

“The little children really liked this as they could do everything on their own. It was also great for them to see where plants come from. There were also so many ideas that you could use to reinforce the learninv experience. Children loved to learn where their healthy food comes from”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? There are a range of ways this kit can be incorporated within the NZC. Clearly it fits in with Science and Health. We were also able to write about the LGL, and there were opportunities for reading further on the topic of Science and Health. In terms of M

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The biggest future learning for my NE class comes in children following through with the growing process - all the way to the table.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I think it helped children recognise where many foods come from. By being involved in the process and having personal involvement, their interest should translate to increased willingness/ excitement to try new and healthy foods.

“This was a great kit for my NE class. Thank-you! The children were excited to submit their applications and to be presented with badges upon being accepted into the LGL. They enjoyed the hands-on process of potting up the seeds, with help from their big buddy class. The little seed kits were so handy, everything that was needed contained in a tidy wee package. The seedlings soon sprouted with water and sunshine, to the great excitement of the children. This was a very hands-on, positive learning experience for the children. They were interested and talked excitedly about what they will be able to grow and eat.”
