In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? cracking the codes for literacy. talking about and learning what some of the unknown vegetables were finding books in the library and reading them (the hungry caterpillar) two groups read Greedy Cat which they buddy read with others.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? some of the clips will be used again next year for our learning (carrots in winter) Now that I've done this process, I will use the ideas from this resource again. In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I think that once our students are able to eat what they've been growing there will be more awareness and willingness to try new things to eat that are healthy.

This will now be a stepping stone to exploring healthy eating more and these experiences were authentic to the kids so they will now have many great memories and will remember more. It also links well with other school programs we have running here alread

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We managed to have many great conversations about what we should be eating lots of and why we should be. Many kids were inspired to share their ways they eat their favourite vegetables which also inspired others to try things out.

Thank you school kit again for another amazing resource which had a great selection of activities that we could choose from and integrate with what we were doing in class. We managed to integrate it with our space theme where the kids looked at how the astronauts in the international space station are experimenting with growing fresh vegetables in space. Which lead beautifully to what plants need to grow. We loved watching our plants grow and looking after them. Having the little garden league club was a great way to hook them all in. In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? In many ways! The students did a lot of talking, listening and writing about plants, what plants need to thrive, how to look after plants, what happens when a seed is planted and how plants are good for people and their health.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will plant some of our plants from the kit in our school garden. At the school we have a Garden Club and we hope that we can make food from 'garden to table' in Term 4 integrating this with food technology involving the Senior School as well.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students were curious to find out what type of new foods every one had tried. They enjoyed all the creative ways others ate vegetables they don't necessarily like eating and even expressing they would try it that way too. e.g. tomato soup was now 'spi

“The Little Garden League Kit was just brilliant! It couldn't have been more suitable for our inquiry topic this last term 'Looking After'. Our Junior class (yr 0-3) studied how and why we look after people, pets and plants. We covered looking after plants at around the same time the kit arrived at school. By that time, we had already started the germination process of broad beans in our classroom. And now that the little garden plants are also available at the supermarkets, the students are really enjoying how this inquiry has made connections between school and their home life. In particular, the kids enjoyed the application letter and tasks to be part of the league, the pledge and the badges. It was almost like assembly time; so official and important! The students have been following the growth of the little plants with a weekly growth diary. The students enjoyed classifying healthy foods from not so healthy foods and how this also linked to looking after ourselves. Coincidently, we had a Colgate Tooth pack to hand out and discuss alongside it. The kit has been the topic of our students' daily conversations, writing, art and maths (measurement). A very successful kit, thank you!”

Being able to taste some veges and herbs and then wait for them to grow themselves at school and then eventually at home has promoted the healthiness and also environmental knowledge of all my learners - no plastic wrappers

“All students were fully engaged in this unit, we tasted 8 different veges and herbs that were growing with our LGL kit which promoted the excitement of waiting for our plants to sprout and then take them home to plant them.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Wonderful for cross-curricular learning, we did gardening and learnt about planting. Lots of art and writing opportunities as well. See photos. My class also became fascinated with Pitcher plants and Venus fly traps which I will continue on with next term

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? It sparked a real interest in gardening and lifecycles which has directed our inquiry for T4 towards ecology and an invertebrates focus.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The area I teach in is fairly wealthy and most children knew their vegetables and had tried them. The timing of the kit didn't work for us. It needed to be at the start of the term so that we could plant them and then watch them grow and then eat them. We

“I loved using the kit. My year 2 class were more interested in the growing process and lifecycle of a plant so I used the kit to teach them about parts of a plant. The arrival of the kit meant that we didn't get to plant them in our enviro garden. It would be best if they were sent out at the start of a term so you have 10 weeks to learn about the whole process.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We looked into different types of books of seeds and how they grow. This also made the kids interested in why plants grow how they get everywhere. Even led to life cycles of butterflies.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? As a school we are getting new planter boxes outside of our classrooms. We are waiting for after the holiday to plant all our seedlings. This is going to give us great teaching opportunities with how to care for plants, work out the right about of water/s

They learnt all the names of the LGL and were excited to watch their own plant grow. There was a lot of talk around what is our favourite vegetable and would we try something new. Most said

“This was an amazing resource to use with the children. They were all so excited to see the LGL club house and write letters to the members to help complete our little garden. Every day they looked in the letter box hoping for a new delivery or code to solve. The package contained everything we needed and more. It was nice to have a few spare plants incase a child accidentally broke their pot. We were quite lucky that we had all 24 seedlings as I know some others were missing a few.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We linked our literacy and numeracy programmes to this kit. We were also able to bring in art, health, and technology. We still haven't finished either!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We would love to look at doing some cooking with our tamariki now!

“This was such a fantastic learning opportunity for our tamariki. We have been able to connect both our literacy and numeracy programme to the Little Garden Kit. The motivation, excitement , and pure joy that this kit has brought to our tamariki has been fantastic! Our kids have been coming to school talking about what they have been eating, and what new veges they have been trying, and have even begun bringing some raw veges in their lunch boxes. We are going to continue extending this even further by delving into our technology design process and building some vertical planters for our plants. I cannot speak highly enough of this particular kit. The opportunities have been endless!”
