What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Getting the chn involved in gardens and having more interest when they go to the supermarket to look at and name vegetables.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kit provided a starter for the children to get involved in their gardens at home and at school.

We have just started getting into the discussions of the nutritional value of vegetables, having just planted the seeds we have only just begun to talk about the science behind planting and growth but haven't moved into the math area of measuring yet. What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Planting and harvesting of food Obesity in children - linked to healthy eating choices

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were engaged in discussions about their eating habits and the types of vegetables they ate and preferred. They also talked about new vegetables they tried and liked or disliked and how particular vegetables were of good nutritional value for you.

“The students have been very engaged in decoding the secret messages and some students have created their own based on these. They were intrigued with the way the soil pod expanded when it soaked up the water. All students are keen to see the plants grow and measure their plants so they can then transfer them into the school garden.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Loved the code breaking links to writing. We then surveyed and graphed other classes favourite vegetables or fruit. Lots of oral language discussions. unfortunately no art achieved this time.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The kids enjoyed the codes.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It encouraged them to take risks - knowing messages were coming from headquarters was serious business.

“Secrets- this was the best secret to unravel. I would recommend this again. I jumped onbaord late and it didn't fit into the classroom programme but I ran a secret club at lunch time which extend to previous children I taught and others so they could bring a friend. Those who came at lunchtime were really into it.”

We have written about the process of planting seedlings and how we have to take care of them. We have used it for maths in a number of ways for example counting each day how many seedlings we have from the

It teachers the tamariki how to grow vegetables and they will in time learn how to plant them and look after them by watering them and keeping bugs and slugs off them. They will learn how to harvest the different vegetables and different ways to cook them

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We discuss daily the different types of vegetables we are growing and how important it is to eat lots of different types of vegetables . It has encouraged a lot more daily discussion in our classroom about healthy eating.

Every morning they run in to see what seedlings have started sprouting over night. We can't wait until they grow a little bigger and we can plant them into our school vegetable gardens!”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Having maori language resources to go with it. The maori words for each vegetable. What types of environments each plant prefers to grow in. Shaded areas, damp areas, sunnier areas and so forth.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The tamariki are aware of all the different types of fruits and vegetables and are looking forward to tasting some that are new to them next term.
