This kit was arrived at the perfect time for our tamariki. It was a beautiful resource to help settle everyone during an unknown time! Our tamariki loved the fact that they were apart of the secret club and took their roles very seriously. All the resources we were provided with were really useful and engaging. We love spending time out in the garden at our school and this kit helped to guide and extend our tamariki learning and passion!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Writing in code and also writing about the planting process, life cycle etc. Looking at photosynthesis and chlorophyll. Experimenting with growing with and without water, still, sunlight. Measuring.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will be continuing with a garden kindly donated by New World so we can maintain and extend the learning. We hope to be able to pick, cook and eat the plants we grow.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Some students who do not eat vegetables tried some out. One child tried carrot for the first time!
We have been loving being members of the Little Garden League. The League members have been very engaged from the beginning and very excited when the plants started to sprout. The coded messages were a real hit and we even swapped coded messages with a class from another school.

Students were more inclined to try new vegetables and are more aware of what they are including in their lunches because of the discussions the kit created around health and wellbeing and the importance food plays on this.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We wrote letters to get into the club, we have investigated plants we already have growing, we have researched what fully grown beetroot looks like, we have counted how many gardens we have, set up a care schedule and measure how much water each plant get
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Cooking, trying new foods, learning how to care for and create nutrient rich soil, bugs/ minibeasts, taking responsibility, achieving something as a collectives, mapping our and planting our garden beds.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children love the character names for each plant, this attachment to the character led to lots more investigation into what food the plant will grow and what it will look like when ready to eat.
The children loved that it was a special secrete. They were fully invested in making our club house and were very motivated when writing why they should be considered as members. We had a 'welcome ceremony' where children were inducted into the LGL, it was all very special.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science in action. Caring for living things. Health. Healthy food choices. Maths. Measurement. Literacy. Reading instructions.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We prepared, planted, weeded and watched our 'butterfly garden' grow and it is needing some more loving care and maintenance which my class of 5 year olds are already helping me with.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating?
