What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I'm definitely keen to do a similar activity with future classes and it has opened out discussions about what we need to be happy and healthy in our class.

“Our concept this term was change and instructions and the LGL fit so well. Students watched carefully as thie seeds sprouted and when they didn't, it opened up some great discussions... including 'oh, is that what those little white bags were?' when students realised they hadn't followed instructions and had forgotten to plant the seeds.”

“This was a great kit and the students just loved seeing the seedlings grow. They would rush in each day to check them out. They also really enjoyed the secret codes and we had a vege tasting day which they were great at having a taste of new veges.”

“The kids in my class were really excited about this kit as they felt special being a part of something top secret. they enjoyed becoming members of the club and trying to learn the founding members of the club. Planting the seeds was a great experience and carefully watching and watering the little pots was a great experience for everyone. This resource created many learning opportunities and discussion around vegetables . We were able to join with another class from our school and have a vegie tasting. Many of the children took risks and tried something new and some surprised themselves as they enjoyed a new vegie they hadn't tried before. We also enjoyed visiting our own school garden and sparked interest in joining the enviro group at school. As well as enjoying our little school garden many children went on to get more little pots from New world and are looking forward to growing their own little vegie patch at home. The letterbox was a bit challenging to make as the card was very thick and as it was the box having to find a new storage container for the seed pots. Overall this was a great resource and the children enjoyed this very much, had it been during a time we were looking at plants more closely this would have been fit extremely well, as a side unit it was great.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Math - measurement. Lots of science. Linked into our writing time. Found books to read which connected with growing vege's, worm bins, compost, etc.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Help the school garden, needs a community to help it grow and be really vibrant. How can we in Room 12 help? Food for worms, water plants, care for the plants in the school environment.

“Children were really engaged and showed enjoyment in watching the soil disc transform. We had been reading 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and growing beans so this was the perfect extension and our little gardens created an amazing garden world inside our class. The children watch as their vege's started to sprout and as they watered them, put them in the sun and cared for them they could see amazing progress. Neat connection with our local community as New World now has them.”
