“This was a fantastic idea. My students really enjoyed planting these. The were very engaged in watching when their plants sprouted. We worked in maths and science when planting these into our garden. As a school we are now looking into having an ongoing community garden which has been come about from doing this activity.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The Little Garden kit has been used to guided our rich topic heading into term 4 where we will take a closer look at food and discover how food impacts us and how we can keep ourselves healthy and nourished.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have linked this kit into our learning for next term where we will ‘take a closer look’ at our food and the nutritional needs of our bodies and how to make a lunch that nourishes us.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have linked Literacy (big books on the Vegetable Garden, plus a literacy display with plant books), science (Living World), Numeracy (graphing / measuring seedlings) and the Arts too.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Our Rich Topic next term is on food which links perfectly (we also did a unit in Term 1 'Let it Grow') so the Little Garden League kit came at the perfect time for us.

We especially loved the codes - children have really enjoyed receiving these each week, cracking the code and writing coded messages to each other - children have even created their own codes during their play which has been amazing to see.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We learnt the vegetable names and also counted how many pot we have in our garden. We also drew pictures of our garden. In this learning experience, we included literacy, numeracy and art learning.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We can extend to our writing of our harvest of the vegetables and how we cook it. We can also link this to science exploration of how seeds grow into vegetables .
