In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Loads of reading and writing and art, linked to te Reo also. Maths was great with measuring and looking at capacity.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Planting and caring for plants. Looking at our enviro garden and the future use of planted veges like cooking and donating to local Salvation Army.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Discussions around healthy eating and choices, it is hard to say if they take these discussions home.

“Brilliant hands on gardening and knowledge building about seeds and growing seedlings. Excellent selection of seeds to discuss and look at different plants and their uses. Overall has been extremely positive with my year 0/1 class.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science - living things and how to flourish new seedlings and help them to grow. Literacy - writing how to plant a seed and look after it Numeracy - how tall it grows, measurement

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? How to maintain the seed and grow it into maturity to then cook and eat the item.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have brain break with fruit or vegetables every day so it was encouraging them to try new things.

“As a class we enjoyed the kit and how it was a secret then little bits were revealed at a time. It was highly suited for juniors and it fit with our learning for the term also. As it was nationally promoted also by New World the children had lots to talk about with whanau. I would suggest maybe a bigger picture of the code breaker as my 5 yr olds were struggling to understand it and read it.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We wrote letters to get into the club, we have investigated plants we already have growing, we have researched what fully grown beetroot looks like, we have counted how many gardens we have, set up a care schedule and measure how much water each plant get

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Cooking, trying new foods, learning how to care for and create nutrient rich soil, bugs/ minibeasts, taking responsibility, achieving something as a collectives, mapping our and planting our garden beds.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children love the character names for each plant, this attachment to the character led to lots more investigation into what food the plant will grow and what it will look like when ready to eat.

“The children loved that it was a special secrete. They were fully invested in making our club house and were very motivated when writing why they should be considered as members. We had a 'welcome ceremony' where children were inducted into the LGL, it was all very special.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will be continuing to learn more about seed germination, and the life cycle of plants.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children have learnt a lot more about the nutrients the plant makes for itself and the positive impacts freshly grown vege can provide us with!

“This pack was awesome! It made the children in Room 1 very excited and was a great hands on resource and linked well into a unit we are doing in Science about what a plant needs/photosynthesis. The children loved planting the veges, growing, protecting and look forward to tasting!”

“Our class just loved to Little Garden League. We really got into the topic and would have liked more resources or lessons to continue the learning. But we have incorporated other resources from various sites to help us.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths - statistics. Counting how many grew and the time they took to germinate. They also drew pictures of them. Researched extra information on how vegetables are processed and cooked via internet.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Making food and lunches at school. Using some of the extra plants from the supermarket to grow in class and then send home for the students to plant them. Many had no idea how to plant vegetables and what to expect. We have planted ours out into the schoo

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They are now interested in vegetables and have learnt how to plant and grow them. The link to having them in food is evident.

“Brilliant resource. The kids loved it. We have been learning about all the different types of foliage and root structures. The badges are very cool and they are extremely proud of them.”
