In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We expanded oral vocabulary using the matching game. We also did some numeracy work around counting days 'til sprouting and compared different rates of growth.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will continue to use the matching game and also consider planting some native flora. We will also be asking student s to complete a ";growing diary"; over the holidays...

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The kit made a great starting point for discussion about where our food comes from and how much healthy food we eat.

“This kit has be great to encourage our tamariki to think about where their food comes from and to expand on their knowledge of vegetable, herb and flowers that we can easily grow. The kit was an excellent resource to support and promote discussion. The matching game has also been very helpful to extend vocabulary for some of our students.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have kept a diary of growth etc for writing Measure our plants daily for maths Drawn diagrams of the plants and and how they grow

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to create healthy kai options with our vegetables

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We have learnt what each plant is and and it's nutritional value. The parents have fed back that the students are wanting to eat vegetables more since they have grown them.

“This has been an amazing initiative that my students and their whanau are all delighted to be apart of! We have loved watching them grow and have even used CD cases so that we can watch and measure each plant grow. My parents have really gotten behind this, as have my parents!”

We have done lots of sharing of other vegetables we grown in gardens at home and ones that they have tried and ones they like and dislike. What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Having our own Master Chef unit as a follow up.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It prompted discussions and interest in different things they could try and how it could be prepared.

“The whole class loved this kit. It was awesome they each got to grow and take their own plant home. The characters and the secret codes were all a bit hit. It was also really helpful to have recipes on the website linked to the different plants.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Our school does transdisciplinary learning, so we connected this to many other curriculum areas. Art, writing, maths, science, PE, EOTC. We plan to do more technology next term too.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We connected this to learning about Bees as well, kids are so engaged learning about bees and plants so we will continue this through into Term 4.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children are keen to show off the vegetables they are eating and have been open to trying new vegetables they hadn't eaten before.
