What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? There are so many places our learning can go from this starting point. It has linked wonderfully to calf club and the gardens children have been growing. Also linking to environmental issues through the Lorax book.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children are more aware and excited about trying new things-we linked it with The Very a Hungry Caterpillar too.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science, writing, inquiry. The secret codes were a huge hit in our classroom and became part of our writing and inquiry process.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Sustainability. That we need to nurture plants and seeds if we are to continue to be able to eat them.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children have learned about more varieties of plants and vegetables, it has helped with their understanding that we grow vegetables, they don't just come in a packet!! Children are more aware of vegetables as healthy snacks.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Learning about how to plant vegetables in the school garden.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It’s helped them to see lots of different veggies that they didn’t know about. Due to Covid we haven’t been able to do the eating part.

“The little garden kit was wonderful. My year 3 kids loved writing an application and pledging to look after their seedling. The hands on part of planting their seedling was fun and they have been excited to see the growth. It followed on really nicely from some grass pets we planted in bottles. Thanks for sponsoring the kit. It was my first kit and I think it provided excellent learning for my class. A lot of them have been going to New World to get more!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have had art, writing, reading, science experiments that have all related back to our Little Garden League.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will definitely go on to plant our school vegetable gardens with some faster growing food such as lettuce. We are an enviro school so sustainability is an aspect that we focus on.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has been great to see more children having vegetables such as carrot sticks, cucumber etc in their lunchboxes for brain break or to eat during the day. We currently have the dental therapists at our school so comparing snacks - sugar vs no sugar has be

“The buzz from this unit has been phenomenal in our classroom. We have a very enthusiastic bunch of students who are determined to take their seedlings home and continue to grow them into fabulous vegetables because they recognise that vegetables are healthy for us to eat. Whilst we were anticipating to pop them into our school gardens, timing will not be on our side. We have had lots of children that have grown their own seedlings at home and share photos from home on our Facebook page. Many have vegetable gardens at home however many also talked about how they could use the food from their vegetable gardens from lockdown. With your help, we have created a hub of green thumbs!!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Writing especially, procedures, descriptions, alphabet knowledge, phonics knowledge using vegetables. Maths with statistics, shape, measurement.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? learning about where to grow particular plants, cooking those veges. Just a really awesome kit, hands on, and can see something tangible!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They talk about how vegetables are healthy and how they have all given them a go. Also talked about how it can prevent holes in teeth as well!!

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to plant some in our junior garden to watch grow till the end and hopefully get kai from it.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children’s knowledge about the vegetables have grown and they were willing to try the vegetables that I bought in.

“This has to be the best ever kit we have got! My kids have loved looking after their vegetable or flower. Watching all the growth. They have written about and drawn their vegetable or plant. Some/ most of the children had never heard or even tired the vegetables before. Some were excited that their parents got some from New World and could tell me what it was. In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We were already planting swan plant seeds, so this worked well with science and seed growth. What plants need, writing, and maths. (measuring the growth)

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have obtained our own class compost bin, so we can reduce food waste, and add the compost to our vegetable garden at school. We will also follow up on the growth of the vegetables, as the children take them home to continue growing.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They became more mindful about different vegetables, what they haven't tried, and what they would like to try. We also looked at various healthy lunch box options.
