In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? You could use it to talk about change or write about your observations

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We do some other programmes around healthy eating so this was a nice / fun activity / interest piece but wasn't core to our learning.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? As I mentioned above we had already planned our term's lesson plans around what the school indicated so healthy eating was not part of the lesson.

“The kids loved the kits and it was exciting setting them up and planting them. Obviously from that point on the teacher (me) was doing the watering but the kids loved watching them grow. The only problem was that because we had already planned our lesson topics for the term they were an 'add on' rather than a topic in themselves. Next time a bit more notice for interest would be useful as we could plan lessons around change / earth / food to table etc. Thank you though - it's not often we get cool stuff for teaching our tamariki!”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Children planting their own veggie plants/seedings at home. Learning about veggies that they hadn't heard of. Checking lunch boxes for veggies. Children taking up the challenge of trying new veggies.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Increased their knowledge of and interest in veggies. Students were keen to tell the class which veggies they ate and were aware of the importance of eating veggies with a range of colours. They also knew (from parents) that some veggie are better for you

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The students picked a vegetable to write too, they had to introduce themselves and explain why they wanted to join the league.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are going to replant the seedlings into our class gardens and do some taste testing.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has opened their eyes to new vegetables and they are willing to try some new ones.

“The kit was a great little project for our class this year. The matching vegetable card game has been a hit as well. The kids have been checking their vegetables growth every day and loved the characters. It has inspired quite a few to try some new vegetables, but we were waiting for level 1 so we can share food. Unfortunately the badges seemed to be of poor quality as several of the pins snapped while kids were putting them on.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? They have discussed what it healthy and what is not. This has followed on well from us researching hhealthy drinks.

“My class are really enjoying seeing how quickly some of the plants are growing. We have had quite a few discussions about why some are taking longer to grow.”

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We measured the plants (maths) we talked about heath and nutrition (PE) we talked about agriculture and farming (social sciences, science) and read more about the plants and then wrote about our plants (literacy)

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I think the ideas are enough, you don't want to overload the teachers as it will become 'another thing' they have to do int heir day! I think the essence of the learning was the special part!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children were made aware that the vegetables they have in their lunches and dinners are from a tiny seed! We talked about how anything that comes from nature always has something beneficial in it for our bodies.

“These worked in so well with our Agriculture day focus at our school. The kids were working hard bringing up their own animals so adding this as a class activity was the perfect timing!”
