How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Firstly we explored language, what Hua and Hua Whenua means, and the names of certain veggies in Maori. We did writing on how the seed grows. We read about how plants grow and researched where different vegetables like to grow.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Our plants are still very small and not carrying any veggies yet. We want to plant them in the school garden after the holidays and keep caring for them. Once we have actual veggies, we will learn how to write a recipe. We will taste and compare the taste
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Year2/3 class: They now understand that vegetables come from the soil. Some grow above and some below. This was a briljant project to do with my students. We explored how the seed germinates and how the seedling grows. They were absolutely astounded once the little seedlings broke through. I was like a competition for them to see who's seedling grew the fastest. This project gave us opportunity to explore so many topics and the students loved being part of the secret club. They would go out and go find other students with the badges.

A fabulous resource. The children were captured from the beginning when they applied to be members and posted their applications in the cubbyhouse. They were then highly engaged and absorbed by the process of planting and growing their plants. They learnt a lot about plants along the way, which linked in perfectly with our plants topic. A big thank you to everyone who made this resource possible.

My students absolutely enjoyed the kit and becoming members of the Little Garden League. They loved the code breaker activities and planting their own little seedlings which they have been monitoring and caring for daily! I had also given them their own little league name so they could expand their knowledge of the variety of vegetables such as Eruera Eggplant.

It was great to have a whole story to go with the resource. My Year 1's loved the idea of being in a secret club. One little guy went home and told his Mum that long, long ago we all started off as plants! Everyone is engaged in looking after their little seedling and either looking forward to planting it in the class garden or taking it home to plant. They have noticed how different plants grow at different rates and have enjoyed talking about eating and trying different foods,
