What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We used this kit to make sure every child learnt how to look after a plant so in the future they can grow veggies even if they live in apartments - so we aren't having another generation of not being able to grow plants. Thank you SO much!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It shows the children how veggies are grown and the fact they don't come from a shop wrapped in plastic.

How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It tied in nicely with my writing programme as the focus was on instructions. My students planted their seeds and then wrote instructions on 'How to Plant a Little Garden'

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We now have a 'Junior School Garden' in which we are growing on some of the seedlings and are learning more about the care and growth of plants.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The students enjoyed planting and growing the seedlings. There was some great discussion around the vegetables they had tried and not tried. Most were keen to try out the vegetables that they hadn't already.

“The little garden came ready with everything needed to motivate and engage the students. The kit was easy to assemble and looked great as a classroom display. The seeds were easy to plant. The students loved the reading the names of the vegetables. Most of the seeds sprouted and grew well. The only downside was the 2 week holiday period. Where some of the seeds had not sprouted before the students left for their holiday.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used gardening as an idea for Maths - area of garden plots - designing garden squares and using tiles. Writing and science were other areas where we could see possibilites.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have our own gardens and greenhouse here at school so there are definite possibilities for using and extending ideas from the Little Garden project.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students are aware that they can grow more than they thought they could. It created conversations about what the children were growing at home.

I was waiting for the Code breakers to come through, and never received them also. Not sure what happened throughout but I can say that the Kit was fabulous and my kids absolutely loved it. They really enjoyed all aspects of the kit, from taking the pledge (and actually trying new foods!!), to planting and caring for their plants. What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? This is an area that can be expanded on in many ways. It would be wonderful if as a staff we sat down and made learning progressions from yr1-yr6, with explicit learning opportunities and outcomes for the children.

“We were lucky enough to receive a kit at the very end of Term 3, as we were on the wait list. This term we have started our little gardens. This has been an incredibly engaging programme for all of the students. In particular it has captured the attention of a student with autism. All of her learning over the past 3 weeks has been around our little garden inquiry. She has written instructions, measured, and read an enormous amount about the care for plants, and the science of plants.”
