In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It gave opportunity for student to learn about maths (sequencing), Sicence( how to grow vegetables), and Social Science (how to be a responsible kid, and how to look after plants).

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? It will also provide opportunity for learning Maori concept, such as kaitiakitanga (how to plant in season, how to protect our environment)

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students have great opportunity to learn about different types of vegetable and how to prepare a balance diet

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Recipes developed, life cycles of plants/insects/birds/pests in the garden, healthy lunches, seasonal crops/countries products etc

They can be a Self Manager and be determined (Persistent) and grow a plant. It is possible they learnt with seeds, water and soil to grow a product which you can eat or to appreciate its beauty e. g pansy without goin

“The Little Garden New World School Kit once again provided valuable resources for hands on experiences in the class. Each child in the class grew a different variety of a plant. Resources and videos added to the Inquiry to support and provide information for the teacher and children. The children were very excited, growing and watching their plants' progress. For the majority of children this was the first time they've grown something.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? As mentioned above, the kit was great for independent use during play. Being the gardener to look after plants was great. The writing/applying part was do easy to incorporate and was very engaging.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are an Enviroschool but as an newish (not quite 2years old) school, we haven't got into gardening much yet. This has given our juniors a hood kick start into using our school gardens in a sustainable way.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were encouraged to think of the things the are growing in a positive light. Kids who previously had a negative opinion of vegetables started to see them with a new lens and were open to including them more in their diet.

“This has been one of the best kits for juniors I've used. The resources and suggested activities were very hands on and so easy to integrate into our normal school routine. We have a learning through play philosophy and this kit leant itself to many independent learning options that were very easy to incorporate.”

Science experiments. Reading lots of different non fiction texts. Visual art...lots of paintings drawing of recordings of experiments

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are continuing with a plant science topic which involves lots of experiements about plants

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Promoted discussion about healthy food and how easy it is to grow your own food.

“The kit was fantastic...i used it to introduce our new topic on plants. The kids loved getting their hands dirty planting the seeds. I really showed the kids the importance of watering plants and ensuring the seeds get sunlight. The resource was so easy to use and every child was able to participant.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Due to my commitments in other areas the kit was not fully utilised

“It was all a bit overwhelming for a sole charge teaching principal. Assembling the boxes should have been easy but it was hard for me to get organised. I didn't think things through well enough. We don't have a school garden. The Secret club was not a good fit for my Y0-8 class. I realise it was aimed at Y0-4 and on reflection I should have heeded this recommendation.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science - exploring how things grow. Insects in the soil to help. Multiple Writing opportunities. Maths measurement and number. Art we drew vege- people to decorate our club.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Cooking the vegetable and tasting Art drawing our grown veges look at textures. Maths measurement statistics etc.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I have notice children bringing more vegetables in their lunches and talking more about what is good for you .

“The children In my class were very engaged and worked collaboratively to discuss and plant and nurture their seedlings. The materials you sent were perfect for my age level. They were excited to see the growth, especially after the weekend. We have now planted the seedlings in a school garden and they love going and helping to weed and water. They loved the badges and letterbox (which we will recycle Into a Room 2 letterbox ) That have learnt about a variety of new vegetables and it will be interesting to see them taste them once they have grown. Thank you for your wonderful resources and for providing a great learning experience for our tamariki.”
