In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This fitted in with our inquiry unit but we also did literacy and numeracy actives to match. From measuring the growth of the plants each week to writing about different areas in literacy.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? - how to care for our body daily - choosing sensible food to eat each day - keeping care of plants - how long each plant takes to grow -

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? All the hands on activities were very beneficial to helping my children aware of the healthy eating. They loved growing their own plants and taking care of them.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths -Statistics-students counted the number of pots. Checked whether there were enough pots for each child. How many extras. In literacy -learned names of vegetables. Phonics - the beginning letter of each vegetable. Science- how plants grow. What plant

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Making a vege patch at school. Grawing and harvesting vegetables. Provide opportunites for studnets to prepare salads or cook veges and have a shared lunch will be a great idea.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students were keen to eat more vegetables. They included carrots, tomatoes, asparagus and fruit in their lunch boxes.

“This kit led to some great learning in literacy and science. Students learnt about vegetables they had not seen or heard of before. Every child had the opportunity to plant and nurture their own little plants. They learned about seeds and what plants need to grow.”

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? now that spring has sprung we can get into our school gardens and carry on with what we have learned, the children were very interested in the herbs in particular as they are often in many meals, they look unusual at times and are quite hardy so they

Children discussed between themselves what they ate at home and it opened up conversations about what was expected from parents with vegetables! Also we learned how different cultures and ethnicities use ingredients in their food.

“After the 2nd lockdown in Auckland many children needed a successful distraction from the immediate learning. Talking about plants and watching them burst through the soil was very therapeutic to be honest!”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths - growth of plants Literacy - letter writing Inquiry - making a raised garden bed to plant our seedlings

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Continue planting seasonal veges to use in recipes. Developing our Garden - raised beds etc in 2021

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This fit in well with our garden to table program running at the moment. We will be making some recipes using some of the items we grew - spinach, cauliflower and turnips

“All tamariki enjoyed the activities sent out and loved taking care of their own plants. Many took the seedlings home to partner up with they ones they had from whanau. Tamariki loved the matching game which inspired them to make their own ideas for matching games. The application letters were a great introduction to letter writing and were very proud to receive badges. Although many of the badges broke and didn't withstand tamariki taking them on and off their clothing. We came up with an alternative plan to wear these. Good problem solving activity. The codes were good and tamariki enjoyed decoding them and finding out the next clue.”
