How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Living world, science, health and well-being - linking vegetables to providing energy.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Garden to table with our community gardens.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children were able to see link from the seed, plant and then vegetables that they recognise on their sandwiches and dinner plates at home.
The children were very excited to grow their little gardens. They rushed to look each day to see if they had grown. The code was appropriate for some of the children but many needed support to complete and then help to read the message. They had an opportunity some weeks later to grow more seeds and as part of the garden to table programme have become a lot more engaged with our school garden and what is growing.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Students researched and shared ways to plant, care for and cultivate a māra. They needed to read and understand the material. They found recipes to share which included their favourite vegetables. They measured and recorded dates, seedling growth and
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We discussed being able to harvest from our garden and sharing that kai. Expanding our small māra to being a whole kura project. Introducing different types of garden i.e. to attract butterflies; rongoā; bee friendly; native. All of these ideas to improve
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? How simple it is to grow nutritious food. Students looked at what they brought in their lunch boxes and what kai they could grow at home. The seedlings allowed us to start our māra at kura and we had robust discussions surrounding homemade &; packaged kai
It was anticipation stations with students excited to take guesses surrounding the contents of the box. This had high engagement immediately. A big tick for ‘mystery’. The resources themselves were fantastic, students loved using the pledge cards and decoding the secret messages. Badges were fabulous to add the importance of ‘membership’. Of course the little garden seedlings themselves were fabulous. One element I would like to point out is that when students were creating their own codes to display, I had to enlarge a pledge card A LOT of times to get a usable size code. It would have been great to have this sheet available to print off.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have incorporated this learning into our writing keeping notes on seedling changes. We have measured seedlings in math too. Also we have done some sketching in art time.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We plant the seedlings to use in future for cooking in our paddock to plate garden.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Yes the children have a better understanding of where their vegetables come from now and the range of vegetables out there. We have made an effort to eat vegetables at brain food time and discuss their goodness and nutrition benefits.
The materials were absolutely top notch.......by far my favourite school kit. The organisation of the resources and material was to perfection and so easy to follow for the teacher.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science and health and nutrition.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Self-sufficiency and creating gardens at home.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We discussed different vegetables and cooked and ate vegetables in different ways, which was great for the kids.
I found the premise great, and the idea of a club a huge draw for the kids but it would have been cool if there was more of a unit plan with clear follow up activities. I also found quite a few of the plans went mouldy and didn’t grow very well so had to toss these out.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We learned the Maori names for a number of vegetables, we learned about how seeds germinate, and used the seedlings to explore both non-standard and standard measuring. Some children also attempted to use their phonological knowledge to sound out the name
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? From exploring this kit, I now have a number of New Entrant children who have joined the School's Gardening Club.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children knew that vegetables are good for you, but believed them to be something that 'had' to be eaten rather than enjoyed. They enjoyed the challenge of trying a new vegetable each week after reading the Task 2 assignment and a number of parents ha
This is an excellent resource for sparking interest and raising awareness/gaining knowledge and understanding of where vegetables come from, that growing vegetables can be exciting and that there are more vegetables on earth than just potatoes, peas and carrots!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used it as a health topic and a science topic with germination and growth cycle of a plant but beyond that it really didn’t lend itself to any other topic.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We talked about how the children could plant their own vegetable garden at home and they took their plant home with them before the holidays. We have a vegetable garden at school so now the children have a better understanding of what is happening as the
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It opened up the discussion of what vegetables children had tried and ones they hadn’t. We talked about how important it was to try new things and then decide whether we liked it or not.
I teach New Entrants (5 year olds) and they loved planting their seeds. It was a great learning topic for us as well. We learnt about what it took to make the plants grow and then we learnt about the stages a plant goes through when it is growing. The children loved watering the plants and then watching and looking for when the first signs of the plants coming through the soil. The only thing that created a challenge was the little signs that said what the name of the plant was became very soggy and ripped due to watering etc. I wonder if these could be made more durable.
