In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Being able to see the process from seed to seedling. Growing their understanding of the life cycle of a seed. Giving them the opportunity to try vegetables they may have previously hesitated in trying.

“Loved this initiative and getting our students interested and engaged in planting. But more importantly taking responsibility and being kaitiaki of our vegetable gardens. It was a fantastic opportunity for some of our students to show their leadership skills and share their knowledge with others.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Basically show children how their food grows/ where it comes from. Our plants are not big enough to try yet but hopefully they will survive long enough for this to happen.

They have been trying new vegetables and fruits at home. They know that vegetables can be fun and not scary. They know they can taste super delicious - both raw and cooked.

“Another amazing kit from School kit. This kit excited and engaged all students in my Year 3/4/5 class. They were so excited to belong to a secret club and were even more surprised to find out that our principal was a member, when she came to present their badges. The students nurtured their seeds well and learnt to work collaboratively to water them, make sure they got enough sun, and keep them safe. The students were able to plant their seeds in our ";garden to table"; garden and continue to see them grow. I loved enthusiasm this kit generated in my class. Thank you school kit and New world.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We really enjoyed the science videos, we also wrote about our favourite vegetable.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are following through with hardening our seedings off and will soon plant them outside.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I think that being a rural enviro-school, many of the children were already gardeners, I was pleased they had already tried most of the vegetables. There has certainly been a lot of discussion about being brave and trying new things though.

“My year 2-3 class enjoyed the little garden school kit. We enjoyed cracking the codes and had great success sprouting the plants. The timing of planting was tricky, mainly due to Covid restrictions falling close so school holidays.”
