How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We are looking at how a digital curriculum can be integrated with Little World Garden. There is a webnair provided by Kia Takatou/Te Papa that us teachers are looking at so we can do this.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students (and some teachers!) were introduced to new foods. They were surprised that they could grow these themselves. We had discussions around why vegetables are healthy, how they provide energy, and what happens to our bodies when we eat unhealthily.
This was an engaging kit. We loved all the resources that were provided. Our students were excited to be part of a secret club.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? It tied in with maths really well! We looked at measurement of both the plants as well as amounts of water used to water them. It covered health of course with healthy eating and fuel for our bodies. We also completed several art and writing activities di
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We finished the unit a while ago which has meant our veges are growing in the garden - our future learning will involve weeding, watering and caring for these plants before we harvest them. Then the fun begins - what shall we make???? The children are con
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children learnt about vegetables they didn't know about. They tried some new fruits/vegetables. Their understanding about why these foods are important for us has greatly improved.
This unit was awesome!!! I loved that it was open to the teachers interpretation to add to it as wanted. The children loved the provided resources, quizzes, and activities. The badges were worn with pride! I did it with a Year 2 class and it was very age appropriate. We thoroughly enjoyed participating in this unit and believe me there is still more to come as the veges continue to grow and hopefully soon we will be harvesting some food to eat.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Because of the age of the children in my class we were a wee bit limited but it did create some great oral language and inquiry thinking about plants The measurement side was a wee bit over their heads but would be awesome in an older class. Literacy was
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Healthy eating Bee Awareness Different types of seeds and seed dispersal
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Basically show children how their food grows/ where it comes from. Our plants are not big enough to try yet but hopefully they will survive long enough for this to happen.
This kit was fabulous we are still continuing with the activities as our growing unit began at the end of Term 3, my class of 5 year olds really believe the story of the LGL and wear their badges proudly. We cant wait to be able to plant them in our Community garden.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? The coding was a great example of a cross curricular activity. We have been learning Maori words for the parts of plants. We have been writing about plants and doing oral language activities around our plant topic.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will be continuing to develop our school garden next year - so this topic will remain part of the teaching and learning programme for the new Year 4's.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Students have become more aware of the variety of plants that they can eat and the parts of the plants they eat. When students cultivate their own crops (and later on add them to their cooking/baking) they are more likely to try new foods. This kit has al
As always the Little Garden plant pots are a great success with students. This term our topic is focused on our school garden, so the school kit has been particularly relevant. Students enjoyed completing and earning their badge as part of the the LGL. They are still proudly wearing the badges. Each day, the first thing they did upon entering the class was to check the plants - a very motivating topic.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Measurement / maths: growth of vegetables over the weeks Writing: Writing stories on their vegetables and also procedural writing on planing the vegetables
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Students seemed to be more interested in the food that they were eating. They also decided (a lot of them) that they wanted to start to grow their own vegetables. We also have a bit planter outside the back of our class so we were wanting to make our own
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Giving characters / names to all of the vegetables - making heathy eating more 'fun' and relatable
One thing that we found annoying was that the little vegetable name tags were made of paper so dissolved when watered. My mistake of not naming the vegetables on a popsicle stick though. The kids loved the secret codes to crack and ended up memorising a lot of the letters. At the end of the term, students all took their plants home and loved being able to plant them with the plants that their parents had received at home too. I was shocked that a few of my students weren't sure on all of the vegetables but it was cool to see by the end of it, students were giving their dinner / brain food vegetables names.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used the code to write coded messages to each other. We carried out research on our chosen plants to find out as much information as we could that we then presented to the rest of the class increasing our digital fluency. We looked at instructional wri
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Next year we are looking at creating a school vegetable garden and also planting fruit trees that in years to come the children will be able to pick and eat at school.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? There have been daily conversations about they type of food that the children are bringing in to school to eat. We already had two children in the class who are vegetarians and their enthusiasm has been encouraging the others to try veggies that they have
The children were so excited first of all when they rehydrated the soil disks, decoding the messages, then when the first shoots began to appear and when they repotted their plants. Now they are waiting for their plants to grow.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used it as a health topic and a science topic with germination and growth cycle of a plant but beyond that it really didn’t lend itself to any other topic.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We talked about how the children could plant their own vegetable garden at home and they took their plant home with them before the holidays. We have a vegetable garden at school so now the children have a better understanding of what is happening as the
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It opened up the discussion of what vegetables children had tried and ones they hadn’t. We talked about how important it was to try new things and then decide whether we liked it or not.
I teach New Entrants (5 year olds) and they loved planting their seeds. It was a great learning topic for us as well. We learnt about what it took to make the plants grow and then we learnt about the stages a plant goes through when it is growing. The children loved watering the plants and then watching and looking for when the first signs of the plants coming through the soil. The only thing that created a challenge was the little signs that said what the name of the plant was became very soggy and ripped due to watering etc. I wonder if these could be made more durable.
