How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We utilised the kit to learn about the growth cycle of plants, from germination to bearing fruit. We created art as part of out diplays. Literacy was evident in stories and writing. Maths used to measure growth.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The children have enjoyed caring for their seedlings and now have taken over responsibility for the school gardens (as this is where our little garden seedlings have ended up). THey are excited to try some recipes using the vegetables as they mature to fe
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The biggest learning for our class was the different varieties of herbs and vegetables contained within the kit, as they were beyond the normal, common household range. Our tamariki were also inspired to pick vegetables from our school garden to take ho
We loved every aspect of this learning experience. From the moment it arrived, the anticipation and intrigue was off the charts for our whole class. There was valuable sharing of prior knowledge for some children, whilst others got to experience something entirely new. We particularly loved the connections, comparisons and competition that went on between class little gardens and whanau little gardens!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We had a whole inquiry based around how plants grow. We wrote about our seedlings and their growth, how plants grow and then about our gardening experience. We have done some artwork relating to flowers and vegetables.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have been meaning to get our school garden up and running for a while now and this kit kick started that process because it provided us with the means to do so - the vegetables itself, which we don't otherwise have money for. We have been inspired to k
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Healthy eating is a big priority at our school and this really helped! The children had not heard of some of the vegetables and we tried them as a class. Growing the vegetables from seed helped the students to understand how plants grew and they were more
My New Entrant class loved this kit! We did a whole inquiry unit on how plants grow and using the Little Garden kit we grew our plants, became Kaitiaki of our own plot in the school garden and last week, set about weeding our garden plot and transforming it into our own little garden. The kids are very excited to grow their own vegetables that they will then take home to their families. Thank you school kit!

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This kit certainly developed the awareness of healthy eating in my classroom. What a fantastic kit! The little garden league created an exciting and engaging story line for my students to follow that allowed for multiple learning opportunities within our class. This kit tied in perfectly with the development of our own class garden on our school farm which meant the kit was put to good use. From guessing what was in the box to planting the seeds and watching our plants grow, all while cracking codes and meeting vegetable characters, it certainly was an enjoyable experience we loved having in our classroom. Thank you New World and School Kit!!

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Gardening: preparing soil, composting, discovering how much food waste we make - and devising ways to reduce that. Worms - not the 'how to eat fried' variety - lots of interest in the types of worms, life cycles, care etc
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Most of our plants are still growing. Not really at the eating stage yet, so we are continuing to care for them in preparation for a salad day.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Discovered a bunch of things we didn't know we could eat. Our food pyramids are more detailed in the vege section now :) Knowing we CAN eat, is still quite different to actually putting the vege in one's mouth however :)
Many of the children did not know the plants before the kit (neither did their teacher. Borage??!!!) Nice for them to learn new plants and how to care for them. Discovered that not all pots needed the same amount or frequency of watering - and that there's an interesting consequence of over watering an as yet to sprout seedling

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? That vegetables are important to have and can be put into anything. They talked about how vegetables can be put into anything!
A great kit! Tied in really nicely with the classes' learning about healthy eating and why vegetables are so important. The students were really engaged and so enthusiastic about the initial introduction process as well, such as the application, badges, code cracker, etc. Such a cool idea to be apart of the league! I am struggling to decide on where to put the plants now and how to keep them going as I personally don't have much of a green thumb. However, this is something I plan on problem-solving with my students. Thank you for this amazing learning experience!

From filling in the application form, to getting their badge, to solving the codes, to planting their seeds and watching them grow was super fun for the children.
