In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The learners are more aware of what is healthy, they will often say that they have carrots or lettuce on their sandwich or in their lunch boxes instead of chocolates.

“The learners loved this activity, every morning they would rush in and go straight to see if their plant had grown over night. So they were very enthusiastic about it. We did find that we were short of time with the planting and doing the actives, maybe next year the boxes could be sent out a bit earlier.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Children wrote and drew about the plants. Maths and poetry were also integrated. Children learned about what plants need to grow and learned about the parts of the plant - Science.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Children want to taste more vegetables and were keen to grow their own as well as to look after the little garden plant at their home. An awareness of eating healthily and the importance of vegetables in their diet will also be carried on hopefully. Hop

“The children were really excited about planting and excited to see them grow. They enjoyed the challenge of breaking the code. The kit suited the Level of the children - Year 1s. The children showed initiative - looked at the plants and realised they needed watering. There was a lot of discussion about vegetables.”

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Maths - measuring our plants Science - experiments Literacy - poems about plants, report writing, stories about plants, flowers etc Play based learning - scavenger hunts, plant craft

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We haven't quite finished the unit yet, and because it is term 4 we probably won't take it further. However, in future years they children will be able to remember planting our school vege garden, sunflowers, our worm farm etc.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has led to some great discussions about different foods, eating a variety of colours, growing your own veges and being brave to try knew things.

“My class is still only half way through this unit, but they are loving it!! We have planted our seeds, as well as beans and sunflowers. We are investing what plants need to survive, so some of our beans are missing out on one vital ingredient! There is much excitement every morning when they arrive at school to check which plants have grown. They love being part of a club and have enjoyed cracking the codes. I thought it was very clever to link it to healthy eating and trying new things. I wish we had been able to start the unit at the right time, (i.e before the general public knew about it) but we were already halfway through another inquiry and it would have meant the seedlings would have had no water over the holidays.”

Lots of opportunities for reading/ research about plants/vegetables, writing - facts, observations, descriptions, narratives, maths - measuring, sorting, using veges for fractions - cutting etc. Science- looking at seeds, how plants grow etc.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Sustainability

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? children found out about different vegetables and some were willing to sample some new foods.

“This was a great little kit that really got the kids engaged. They enjoyed the planting and watching how the seeds grew. It was colourful and well presented, with fun activities. Children enjoyed the code cracking and the game.”

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Lots of connections between home and school with heathy eating and trying new things. Lots of discussion in class about yummy veges and making things to try - smoothies, veg fritters etc.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Many of the vegetables were unknown by the children. With our language experience the children also got to taste a range of vegetables, some for the first time.
