How effective was this kit in promoting healthy eating in your classroom?
In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have a Science Lab as a role play area in our class at the moment so we were able to talk about how biology fits in this. We are also learning about writing Informational texts so have recorded instruction manuals on how to plant as well as recording r
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We would like to go further with this and get into sustainability and plant and maintain a class garden. Also we could look at what else we could be eating and doing to ensure a healthy lifestyle.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? There has been a lot of discussion around what the different vegetables are. There are a lot that the children had never heard of. There has been a lot of talk around what are favourite vegetables which will hopefully encourage some children to try vegeta
It was great to have all the variety of plants available for us. The kids really liked the idea of being in a club. I received the kit on the waitlist to the children already had seen them in New World by the time I was able to introduce it so the 'secret' part of it wasn't able to be played out in my class but the 'club' idea was a good incentive for them to be involved and research and think about the needs of plants. I have given them one each to look after and they have enjoyed nurturing and finding out about their particular plant.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? Science topic 'Dig This' - what plants need to grow, what are the different parts of plants. Writing - procedure writing - how to make a garden. Following instructions.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Art - drawing and painting plants. Encouragement for gardening at home.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Learning about a full variety of vegetables and herbs. Made vegetables cool and exciting.
Absolutely wonderful for all children to experience the planting of seeds and seeing them grow. Perfect fit for our science topic. We also used the opportunity to integrate into writing with procedure writing. It is wonderful to have the full range of plants. We plan to plant them in the school garden. It's amazing how many plants the children have never heard of so what started out as a mystery has turned into a full learning experience. THANK YOU.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? They were very interested in finding out about how plants grow and are pollinated. We were able to read a number of School Journal articles about establishing a garden and growing vegetables. The children had to take their plants home to care for them duri
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have planted a vegetable garden outside our classroom. This will provide opportunities to care for the garden and the plants as well as preparing the vegetables that we have grown for a shared meal.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The children were interested to learn about the different vegetables particularly the ones they hadn't heard of. They didn't know that you could eat some flowers. All the children had to find a recipe for their favourite vegetable soup.
The kit generated lots of excitement. They were keen to earn their membership badge and we had a lot of fun with the Vegetable jokes. There was a lot anticipation about which plant they would get when they opened up their little box. It was interesting to see how many children didn't know how to sow seeds.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We will continue to learn and observe our little gardens in their Box garden home and see how many grow into full sized veggies and plants -)
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We talked about vegetables and learnt the names of lots of new vegetables. There was a real mix in the room of children who didn’t know many to children who knew a lot.
What a great way to get little people into growing . My new entrants class loved planting and watering their little gardens. Learning the pledge and receiving a badge to join the club was very cool -) As they are only five the act of using the veggie codes was too tricky for them to do independently as they don’t know all their letters -) It’s created much discussion about growing and plants and even got the caretaker involved in setting up the wee box garden.

Our year 2 learners were very excited about this kit! They were very enthusiastic about becoming members of the Little League and loved handing in their applications. We had a lot of eager children checking daily on the progress of the seedlings. We loved the resources that came with the kit and spent time learning about our food and where it comes from.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We are heading down the path of Jack and the bean stalk. We can then go onto healthy eating and growing things.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? I think it is a wonderful resource as its practical, visual and the excitement of being able to grow something is great. A few children are not allowed to grow anything at home. Thanks very much. Sandy

Hi there, we did not get a chance to open it until last week. We took groups of children with setting up and planting our seeds. They are starting to grow and make little plant diaries with their growth chart.
