What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? All of the above: an in-depth learning in a chosen aspect could lead to amazing outcomes. Thank You!
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? The message taken home which made a difference in the content of their lunch boxes. Students talk more about healthy food and choose to eat fruit and vegetables. The introduction to herbs created an awareness and they could point out the different smells
A fabulous resource that immediately got students hooked into the concept of a secret Garden Club. The practical aspects of planting, caring for and watching the seeds germinate into seedlings was fascinating for little students. An introduction to herbs was interesting as this is not familiar to them. Involved the 5 senses.

What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? Procedural writing. Maths measurement when we harvest and share the fruits of our care and labour....making salads.... mental health and well being associated with growing plants and been connected to our land. There are a lot of cultural connections here
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Knowledge of different vegetables, being able to identify them in the supermarket. Understanding that eating vegetables is an important part of everyone's diet. We talked about in the old days when pirates were at sea they often suffered from 'scurvy'. Th
Little Garden school kit was excellent. The participation levels within the class were high and whanau and family engagement was wonderful. The first set was planted and lovingly tended and we had a situation that was unexpected but gave the children the chance to develop and demonstrate resilience. Every school has students who willfully disrupt other children's learning and our entire garden was destroyed....we were heartbroken but tending a garden is a learning experience and we had great family support and terrific support from the school kit crowd. An urgent delivery was resent and the bonus was I sent the plants home for the holidays and asked that families supported their children. Well the buy in was huge! Families shared photos, shopped at New World to get more plants and I asked that photos from home be shared. It was tremendous. Families spoke of forests growing at home in the TV room, kitchen benches were covered with plants and then we started the swapping...children bringing in repeat plants and asking for other ones. The new knowledge that the children have of vegetables and herbs is wonderful. The resilience and forgiveness shown was heartwarming and perhaps the fact that the family of the child who destroyed our class garden got in behind helping her grow her own plants was something special for her. The contents of the lunch boxes and brain food items has extended to include capsicums, cucumber, carrot sticks and one child even had a broccoli salad. Children have tried new food and the families have noted greater engagement with meal planning and discussions about healthy eating. The knowledge about the living world is good...caring for plants requires a commitment and some of these children may well grow up to be chefs gardeners, farmers, and just good parents based on this important introduction to healthy eating, food on our plates, being able to identify vegetables, learning about herbs and what they add to meals...so much in the way of good opportunities. I can't thank you enough for the school kit. WE did some amazing art work as well and I aligned it to a poster on understanding success which I will upload to this site. The support from the lady who couriered the packages of new plants was outstanding. I had given up but her speedy response got me going again. Thank you

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We tried to use the coded messages for Literacy but it was too hard for my students and they lost interest. (Even when we did them as a whole class)

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We used the kit for science around plants and growing with a particular focus on what plants need to survive. We also used the kit as a writing prompt and for art with a closer look into the growth of a plant from germination to seedling to plant. We were

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We read more about life cycles. Used playdough to create them. Persuasive writing about planting more trees and growing our own vegetables to reduce carbon footprint.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We could think more broadly about our world. The effect of what we do on climate change.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? WE got sidetracked into how plants help our planet - I am sorry about this but I went with the flow of the children. I think that this is also a worthwhile discussion.
We loved this kit. The children really embraced being part of a secret team that was looking after plants. They wore their badges and were very serious about cracking the codes. We had to problem solve and rethink how we were doing things because we were not so good at getting the seeds to strike. However this was fine because it meant that we had lots of discussions and had to go back and think about what we had read. In the end when some of the seeds sprouted there was genuine joy about their achievement. We were well supported with the online resources. Children were keen to have a go at home with seeds from the supermarket. We talked about why plants are important - however this discussion got sidetracked into climate change and a healthy planet - I didn't think this was a bad thing. Children had thoughtful ideas.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? We have undertaken several science activities - observational drawing of seedlings. In literacy, the students have talked a lot about the process of growing food and some of them have written accounts of the process. In maths, they enjoyed the coded messa
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? The kit has encouraged students to take a greater interest in growing seeds and, once they are planted in the school gardens, we anticipate more students helping out with the gardening club. Sampling vegetables/leaves in the future will be an additional b
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? As we haven't grown any produce yet, the kit hasn't improved awareness of healthy eating. However, it has generated a great deal of interest in growing seedlings, and we have had discussions about vegetables - likes and dislikes.
We received the kit a little later on than other classes and, as a result, had to send the seedlings home with students over the September break. Some have been returned and students are enthusiastic about looking after these. However, they are not yet quite ready to plant out and we probably won't have any produce from them before the end of term.

In what ways did this kit give opportunity for cross-curricular learning? This was excellent for our science curriculum and talking about living things. However it also provided lots of inspiration for our writing, and we applied our measurement knowledge to our wee sprouts.
What future learning opportunities have arisen from this kit? We have school space to now plant out our seedlings so this can lead on to future learning about gardening and growing.
In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Great to have the spotlight on veggies and their importance in a healthy diet.
This was a fantastic and well put together kit with great support provided. It was engaging for the children and provided hands on and practical ways for them to apply their knowledge.

In what ways has this kit improved students awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? This tied in with our topic this term I am an athlete. We looked how athletes eat a healthy diet and that included vegetables. Many of the children did not know what some of the vegetables were so the kit created great discussions and looking at pictures
We have loved the Little Garden Kit in my class. From the suspense to guessing what is in the box, to joining the club, growing our seeds and learning about different vegetables and why they are good for us!
