In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Most children have a positive attitude toward healthy nutrition and healthy eating. They could talk about healthy diets etc but still went back to the potato chips and prepackaged food that is in their lunch boxes.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Many children learnt about new types of vegetables that they did not previously know about.
I think the kit and the learning involved was awesome, but it really didn't work for us so well. In the collaborative class that I only teach in one day a week, it was hard to follow up and help the kids keep the plants healthy and alive. I had the other teachers support, but they were running their own programs, so it didn't work as well as it should and we were critically time poor.

How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Teachers created tasks on Seesaw to support with vegetable identification which was a great way to learn the names. Writing the names and some information about each vegetable further reinforced the learning
A fun and informative kit. Was also a great way to develop the home/school partnership.

Growing things is such a powerful connector for kids! they grew super fast and were really proud to take them home. They also thought the badges were awesome. we didn't do all the activities as well as we could have, that was due to my organisation. You gave a really cool different angle to simply growing. Our kids were engaged in this kit. Ngā mihi!

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? It has had a positive impact on the student's mindset around healthy eating and trying new vegetables.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? A lot - we had many discussions about the different kinds of vegetables and how many people eat them all the time, sometimes or they have never tried them before. Taking time to name the ones we already knew and new ones that they didn't know.
Healthy eating and our little gardens! Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about healthy eating to fuel our bodies for health to grow strong and be good swimmers. As part of our learning, we have incorporated planting our own healthy vegetables from the little garden seedling pots from the School Kit program. We have learnt the names of various vegetables with the playing cards and how to care for the seedlings as they grow. Last week we tried some healthy spinach from our school garden, and mostly everyone liked it. We discussed how trying new things is good for our taste buds and you can eat vegetables in many ways such as raw, steamed, cooked or with other vegetables in salads. This week we went outside and transplanted some of our seedlings into the gardens at school. We look forward to watching them grow and tasting them later in Term 4. Great learning Kauri A.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? We talked about our school lunches and what was in them, both visual or as a hidden vegetable cooked into a nutritious muffin. Lots of Aha moments as we talked about what was on their plates at home and that they looked different in the garden.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Large impact because the children learnt about some new vegetable names that were not bought by their family. When we checked out what they would look like when they matured, some had seen them on the supermarket shelves but never knew what they were call
OMGsh, the surprise kit paid off. Our school had a science kit due that was linked to plants, petals and pollination. I thought I'd risk it as the top secret kit looked like it had some carrots on the stickers. Thank you from the children and myself for the enriched learning that they were exposed to. We used aspects of the kit across the curriculum, including procedural writing, maths, science, and health to name a few.
