How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? They loved it, the poster really helped.
I planned it pretty poorly, I started in week 8 of term 3 when I should've waited until term 4. They took them home over the holidays and some have kept them alive and growing and some just let them die. All my kids loved the idea of it but when the holidays rolled around it got lost.

My class loved the Little Garden School kit. They took their pledge seriously and made sure their plants were well looked after. When the badges were given out it created a conversation about the different vegetables and it amazed me how many did not recognise many of the vegetables. Although healthy eating was not a big focus we did learn to recognise more vegetables and they all knew that vegetables are good for you.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Definitely that message was heard loud and clear with the last pledge to try more vegetables and this was sent home just before the school holidays. I have reminded them of this pledge with some children saying they are trying..
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? The students and teacher were introduced to different vegetables and because each student had a different plant they identified the vegetable with the student. Some became quite precious over their plant.
The Little Garden League was an amazing experience my class began while I was on leave and I completed on my return. The imaginative, role play component was creative and fun. Everyone wanted to get the popcorn plant to grow which we planted in the school garden. Some how carrot sticks appeared with the usual sausage sizzle day. The codes were great and they got quicker with solving them. Thank you so much for the opportunity.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Tamariki commented that they hadn't realised they would enjoy some of the vegetables we sampled. We were able to have some good discussions about the benefits of eating vegetables as well.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Children became more confident distinguishing between different vegetables, and became familiar with new vegetable names.
The children were highly engaged by the context of a secret club. There was much anticipation about our seedlings, and this provoked some good discussion about what plants need, and the different ways different vegetables were growing. The code crackers contributed to heightened engagement. I was pleasantly surprised by how enthusiastically the children tried a range of different vegetables. Below is some feedback from tamariki about what we learnt: - Interesting and exciting - It was good to help grow plants. - It's good if you taste a vegetable more than one time. - Give things a go. - It not about it looks, its about how it tastes. - Always look out for signs from HQ.
