In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? I brought in a variety of raw and cooked vegetables to taste and all children were able to try things they knew they liked and new ones. Tinned baby corn was new to most, and ended up being a favourite!
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Great discussion on what the unfamiliar ones were. Debate whether popcorn was s vegetable or just another name for sweetcorn.
The children loved the kit. As we had to carry it over into Term 4, I was worried the children wouldn’t be as excited since the New World promotion had ended, however, they really got into it and it spurred some of them into planting ones they already had at home.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? These children seem to eat very healthy.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? It was amazing that the children recognised the vegetables they were planting. This class of kids actually have a good variety of vegetables they eat.
My children of Year 1's were so excited to plant their vegetables. They loved watching the soil tablet expand with the water. Then they eagerly waited for their seeds to grow. It was interesting talking about how some take longer to grow than others and why that might be. Just before the holidays the children got to take their plants home. This was very exciting for them. We even made little baskets out of card to take their plants home in.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? It was great to see children comparing the number of shoots as they appeared in the pots. The having to wait as some took longer than the others and the fact that the size of plants was so variable even at the early stage.

In what ways has this kit improved student awareness of nutrition and healthy eating? Children interested but the impact of high fruit and vegie costs places constraints on family budgets.
How successful was this kit in promoting student ability to identify vegetables? Many students had quite a limited range of plants they could recognise. They found it hard to relate the early shoots to the plant they would become.
This kit is fabulous as usual. The children really enjoy the hands on components. My class this year were less able to sustain a high level of interest compared with other groups in the past. I really missed the fact that not all components arrived at once, in fact even though we had a message saying badges etc would be sent as soon as they arrived, mine never did. Not having those tangible factors made it harder to keep interest. They are really needed for young children!! Thanks to the sponsors especially in these tough times. It was so worthwhile.
